Travis Shipp Obituary

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 3, 2011 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Travis O. Shipp, Jr., 88, who passed away on September 1, 2011 at 3:15 am at his residence. Reverend Chris Blanchard, Pastor of Covenant United Methodist Church, and Reverend Byron Aucoin, will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery. Mr. Shipp, born in Shreveport, LA and a resident of Southwest LA War Veteran's Home in Jennings, LA, was the son of the late Travis Oliver Shipp, Sr., and the former Eva Davis. He was a veteran of WWII and Korea. He retired after many years with Citgo in Sulphur, LA. He was a devout member of the Maplewood United Methodist Church for 50 years. Upon relocating to Lafayette several years ago, he became a member of the Church of The Covenant, A Methodist Community in Lafayette, LA. He is survived by two nephews, William Travis Crutchfield of South Carolina, and James Blake Shipp, Jr. of Ville Platte; five nieces, Kay Crutchfield McKean of Slidell, LA, Martha Shipp Miller of Ville Platte, LA, Paula Shipp DeShetler of Highlands Ranch, CO, Julianna Shipp Darbonne of Kingwood, TX, Rosemary Shipp Benoit of Lafayette, LA; nine great nieces, nine great nephews, and many great great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dora Higginbotham Shipp; his sister, Gloria Shipp Crutchfield; brother, James Blake Shipp, Sr.; one niece, Susan Lia Shipp LaFleur and one great nephew, Christopher Lindsey Shipp. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service. The family ask that memorial contributions be made in Mr. Shipp's name to: The Covenant Methodist Building Fund, 300 E. Martial, Lafayette, LA, 70508. Pallbearers will be James Shipp, Keith Miller, Daniel Shipp, James Miller, Jeremy Miller, Burnett Benoit, and T.J. Stephens. Personal condolences may be sent to the Shipp family at www.delhommefuneralhome.com. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
