Mr. Troy Blair, a good, sweet-hearted, and God-fearing man who loved his family and everyone around him, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville, N.C. He was 80 years old.
Troy was born on July 18, 1945, in Avery County to the late Charlie G. Blair and Beulah Jones Blair. From a young age, Troy showed a natural gift for music. He began playing guitar as a boy, quickly developing into a talented musician and singer. For more than 30 years, he traveled with his family band, The Blairs, sharing his passion for music at countless events, on radio programs, and even on television. His music brought joy to many, and he poured his heart into every note he played.
Known for his honesty, kindness, and gentle spirit, Troy never met a stranger. He welcomed everyone with warmth and sincerity and never wished harm on a soul. He was a gifted storyteller, bringing laughter to those around him with his humor and the lively way he told a tale. His joyful, full-body laugh was contagious and will be remembered by all who had the blessing of hearing it.
In addition to his parents, Troy is preceded in death by his three brothers, Fred Blair, Homer Blair, and Claude Blair.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 33 years, Brenda Blair; four children, Tammy Finley and husband Dwayne, Melinda Mace and husband Dean, Belinda Bobbitt and husband Thomas, and Brigadier General Jerry Baird and wife Leslie, all of Marion; his sister, Mildred Parker of Roan Mountain, Tenn.; many grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immeasurable joy.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Westmoreland Funeral Home, with Rev. Doug McPeters officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 1 to 2 p.m., in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home. Following the service, interment will take place at Sunny Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
