Troy was born in Abraham, West Virginia, on January 28, 1940, son of the late Nelson N. and Kayulah (McDaniel) Gwinn.

Troy retired from General Motors. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany, where he met the love of his life, Hermine. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Justin, Kayci, April, Alex, Andrew, Ashlee, Morgan, and Brandon; five great-grandchildren: Cambria, Georgia, Laikynn, Landon, and Jamie; two sisters, Betty Stacy and Carolyn Kirk and her husband, Terry; and his brother, Thomas Gwinn and his wife, Becky.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Wanda Kees and Drema Bledsoe; and his brother-in-law and best friend, Ray Stacy.

A viewing will be held from 12 to 1 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. The funeral service will begin on Friday at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Debbie Mahady officiating. Burial will follow the service in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, with full military honors presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
