Troy Lee Koonts, 93, of Lexington, North Carolina passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Atrium Health Lexington Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Piedmont Funeral Home in the Timberlake Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Troy was born August 9, 1932. He was preceded in death by his father, Dayton Koonts, his mother, Sadie Everhart Koonts, and his wife of 60 years, Doris Prevette Koonts.
After the passing of his wife, Troy made his home at Ocean Isle Beach for 15 years until his health declined.
Surviving are his daughters he loved very much, Kitty Lanier (Ricky), Troi Ann Michael (Mark) and Sarah Ratliff (Robby) all of Lexington. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Annette Lanier Kruse, Lee Lanier, Zach Michael, Christina Copley, Casey Copley and Chase Copley, as well as seven great-grandchildren, Kendall Kruse, Kaden Kruse, Nathan Lanier, Makayla Lanier, Ellery Michael, Eli Copley, Rhett Copley, Brynleigh Copley and Colt Copley and a sister-in-law, Kaye Prevette.
Troy was a member of Meadowview Presbyterian Church and attended for over 50 years. He and Doris helped organize South Brunswick Community Church, now known as New Life Community Church of Calabash, where he attended as long as his health would permit.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Life Church, 10050 Beach Drive, Unit 120, Calabash, NC 28469 or the donor's choice.
