Troy Rolland "T.R." Rutherford Jr., 89, of Bluff City, Tenn., passed away on August 18, 2022, at The Waters Rehabilitation Facility in Bristol, Tenn.
T.R. was born to the late Troy and Lucy Rutherford on December 9, 1932, in Bristol, Virginia. Following four years of service in the United States Air Force, he was employed by Raytheon Missile Systems Division in Bristol, TN where he retired after 37 years of service. He was a member of Rockhold United Methodist Church. T.R. enjoyed woodworking, travel, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, T.R. was preceded in death by three brothers: J.B., Herman, and Jack Rutherford and three sisters: Remma Walker, Pauline Yates, and Dot Hunt.
T.R. is survived by his wife of 29 years, Joan Thibodeaux Rutherford, daughter, Leah Rutherford Morrell (Mike) of Forest, Va.; son, David Rutherford (Clarinda); and granddaughter, Lauren Rutherford, all of Bluff City, Tenn.; stepdaughters, Mary McClanahan (Brian) of Nashville, Tenn., and Christine Thibodeaux of Novato, Calif.; grandchildren, Clare, Katie, and Patrick McClanahan, and Ellie, Bing, and Maya Westbrock; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 p.m., Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Akard Funeral Home. A graveside service with Military Honors will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at Mountain Home National Cemetery with Dennis Milhorn officiating.
