Truett Joseph Clayton, Sr., a man of wisdom and intelligence, left this world on October 29, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on January 4, 1930, in Pontotoc, Mississippi, Truett became a beacon of light for his community, his family, and the nation.
Truett passed away at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS, leaving behind a legacy of honor and devotion. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Selma Lou Pitts Clayton, and his parents, Ervin J. and Fannie Lou Wilder Clayton. His memory will be cherished by his two daughters, Luanne Clayton and Lisa Lewis (Greg), his son, Truett "TJ" Clayton, Jr., and his adored grandchildren, TJ Clayton III, Tonya Stegall, and Christopher Lewis.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Truett served his country with distinction during the Korean War, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class. His passion for his country was paralleled only by his love for his family and his community. After his military service, Truett made significant strides in the furniture manufacturing industry. He began his career at Futorian Mfg and, in 1966, became one of the founding members of Brookwood Furniture. Truett stood as the last living member of the original founders of Brookwood Furniture, a testimony to his enduring commitment and perseverance.
In 1984, Truett, along with his partners, started and owned Landmark Furniture, cementing his reputation as a visionary entrepreneur. He continued to contribute his talents and experience to the industry until his well-deserved retirement in 1997.
Truett was a devout Christian who lived his faith through action and care for others. Outside of his professional accomplishments and military service, he was an avid outdoorsman who took pleasure in hunting with his bird dogs, tending to his garden, and feeding the birds and squirrels that visited his backyard sanctuary.
Friends and family knew Truett as a man who loved his country deeply and took great pride in his service. His intelligence and wisdom often made him a sought-after source of advice and guidance, qualities that many will sorely miss. He was a long time member of the NRA and even was known for gifting memberships to numerous people.
Services to honor his life will be on Friday, October 31 at 2:00 pm with visitation from 12:00 until the start of the service.
United Funeral Service is honored to be entrusted with these services.
