MR. JOSEPH HERMAN "JOE" PRICE, JR. was born to the late Joseph Herman Price, Sr. and Addie Bryant Price on December 6, 1949, in Halifax County, North Carolina. He was the only son among four siblings: Dorothy P. Carter of
Littleton, North Carolina, Eva P. Yelity of Norfolk, Virginia, and Catherine P. Dickerson, who preceded him in death.
On Wednesday, November 5, 2025, Joe peacefully transitioned from this earthly life and entered the heavenly realm at Durham VA Health Care Center in Durham, North Carolina.
During his early life, Joe accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and later became a devoted member of the Pleasant Zion Baptist Church in
Littleton, North Carolina, where he served faithfully as a Trustee. His presence was deeply missed by his church family during his recent illness that prevented him from attending services regularly.
Joe received his formal education in the Halifax County Public School System and attended the former McIver High School in
Littleton, North Carolina, where he played Varsity basketball and became well-known for his legendary "Fadeaway Jump Shot". McIver High School closed as a secondary school in 1970, and he graduated with the class of 1971 from Northwest High School at William R. Davie in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
Joe was drafted into the United States Army in 1972 and valiantly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1974. After completing his military service, he pursued a career as an electrician and plumber with Owen's Electric in
Littleton, North Carolina, where he was employed for over twenty years.
Joe was affectionately known to many as the "New Dixie Mart coffee lover". He was a devoted friend and man whose presence brought joy and laughter to everyone around him. Although he was a man of few words, his wisdom spoke volumes. As a self-proclaimed poet, he found beauty in life's small moments, and as a true Jokester at heart, he found humor in every situation with his special gift for making people smile. He was quick with numbers, had smooth rhythm, and could move like a dancing machine.
Joe was a passionate sports fan and proudly cheered for the Dallas Cowboys, the Duke Blue Devils, the San Antonio Spurs, and the Baltimore Orioles. As an athlete himself, he was known for his "Golden Glove" on the softball field, and he also enjoyed friendly competition and camaraderie playing a good game of dominoes.
Joe was a father figure to many and had a special love for children. Halloween was one of his favorite times of the year. It gave him a chance to bring laughter and a "little fright" with his unforgettable scary mask. He will be remembered for his humor, kindness, unwavering spirit of gentleness and as a man who loved deeply, lived fully, and inspired all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In addition to his parents and sister, Joe was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Cameron Hicks; and one brother-in-law, Garry D. Yelity.
Joe was united in marriage to the former Janice Settles. This union was blessed with three children: Shawneke Wilson (Marcus), Steven Settles ( Tretiachi), and Addie Price. He was also blessed with another son, Ricky Pearson. His memory will also be forever embedded in the hearts of his beloved grandchildren: James Fitts, Steven Settles, Jr., Aaziya Settles, Aazari Settles, Kajuan Pearson, Kiara Newell, DJ Richardson, and Jorianne Pearson; his great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Wallace Dickerson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends who truly loved him. His legacy of joy, generosity, and faith will live on in their hearts forever.
A viewing will be held on Monday, November 10, 2025, from 12:00 noon until the funeral service time at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, 215 US Highway 158,
Littleton, North Carolina. Rev. Milton R. Solomon, Jr. will deliver the eulogy, and burial will follow in the South Street Missionary Baptist Church Memorial Gardens, Bacon Road,
Littleton, North Carolina.
