Tyrone Ellis Obituary

Like most singers Tyrone Ellis began singing at an early age in his grandfather's church. His voice and spirit moved all who heard him. At age 14 his first professional gig was as a musical director that lasted five years at a sleep away summer camp for disabled children. By the age of 16 he had written and sung the title track "You'll find it in Jesus" with the Jersey City Mass Choir. Then went on as a featured opening act for the gospel plays "My Grandmother Prayed" & "The Streets Can't Have My Son".
Throughout his career he has done studio session work for artists such as The Fine Young Cannibals, Wyclef, Run DMC, Barbara Tucker; & made appearances on shows like Soul Train, Jenny Jones, CBS Morning Show, BET Live, 106 & Park, & Apollo. He sang as background vocalist for artists such as Freddie Jackson, Patti LaBelle, Stephanie Mills, Mary J. Blige, Bebe Winans, James Hall and Kim Burrell amongst others.
