Dear Katie, I had the honor of knowing and working with Gronk at US Fleet Forces Command and later as he took Command of the Naval Expeditionary Combat Command. My favorite memory of Don was when he used his short term photographic memory in testimony before Congress on the Environmental Impact Statement for a new outlying field for NAS Oceana. When asked a question, it was amazing to see Don refer the Congressional Reps to the page and paragraph of the answer in an over 400 page document.
As the first Commander of the Naval Expeditionary Combat Command, he had the unenviable task of meeting the remains of many members of the EOD Command lost in combat. He always showed great empathy and compassion in the execution of this responsibility.
Don was an Outstanding Naval Officer, dedicated professional and just a great guy. My life is better for having known him and having had the honor of working with him.
In sincere sympathy at his loss, Thom Crabtree

As those of us who got debriefs from LSO´s from guys that did not fly our aircraft - they either know their stuff or are blind. Gronk knew his stuff and was a great LSO. My pleasure to have known him aboard Connie. Gone too soon - but lived life in the now. Condolences to the family.

Admiral Bullard was such a joy to work for. He brought out the best in those who worked for him and was a constant encourager. He will be greatly missed. Prayers for his family.

I met Gronk in 1982 aboard "Connie".
As a rag LSO, I learned a lot from Gronk, all good. Played golf and drank a few beers with him too. Great memories on every occasion.
My condolences to his family.

Gronk, you left us too soon, Shipmate. Spent many hours in the air, and on the platform with you. RIP as you leave a proud legacy for your friends and family, all in service to a grateful nation.

I am very sorry to read of "Gronk's" passing.

"Gronk" and I crossed paths many times in Lemoore (VA-122, AirPac and VA-97). He was of the most energetic and intelligent people I have known. A good officer, aviator and mentor, he lead by example and it was a challenge to keep up with him. He looked rough and tough, but he had a soft heart and was a kind soul.

May "Gronk" rest in the presence of our Lord.

God bless the Bullard family.

Gronk was a great friend and mentor for many years. Worked with him as an LSO for many years as a Training LSO in the RAG through my AIRWING LSO tour. Spent many hours at the firing range in Lemoore sighting in hunting rifles. He is already missed. Fair winds and following seas my friend.

Gronk was a great squadron-mate who always had your back. We were in VA-195 together in 1977. Katie, I am so sorry for your loss.

Admiral Bullard was an amazing leader and a great man. He created a command and force with his vision and drive. He worked tirelessly for the sailors and to gain resources for their safety. Rest in Peace Admiral and I send my prayers for the family.

I worked for the Admiral when he stood up the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC). He was a man of vision with the grit to make the visions reality. Under his leadership the Martime Security forces were consolidated and ultimately recognized Navy-wide for their security expertise and capability as a force multiplier. My prayers are with his family in this difficult time.

Rear Admiral Don "Gronk" Bullard was the right person to stand up the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command during the height of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. I was honored to serve as his first Deputy Commander. He was a great man and a great Naval Officer. Fair winds, following seas, Admiral Bullard.
