A Mass of Christian Burial for Una Mary Treasa Mc Intyre, 91, of Granville, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 19, 2024, with Fr. Mike Gentry as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Immediately following the burial, Friends and family are invited to St. Francis Murphy Hall for a luncheon.
Una, a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, passed at her home on Friday, March 15, 2024, after a long, brave struggle with Alzheimer's. She was born in Galway City, Galway, Ireland on May 28, 1932, to the late Charles and Annie (Martin) Foley. She grew up in Curraghroe in beautiful Co. Roscommon in the 1930s and 1940s with her two brothers Andrew and Sean and sister Margaret.
A devoted daughter, wife, and mother, Una is deeply mourned by her devoted husband of sixty-one years, Richard; her five children, Ann (Garrett) of Granville OH., Sheila of Kildare, Ireland; Andrew (Laresa) of Florida, Kieran (Susan) of Kildare, Ireland, and Deirdre of Heath, OH. She is fondly remembered and loved by many of her nieces and nephews and grandchildren living in both America and in Ireland.
The Foley motto is "That I May Be of Use". Una embodied that motto each day of her life. You could always find Una working in her kitchen baking, tidying her home or in her garden. She was the best of Irish bakers and made perfect desserts, especially rhubarb and apple pies. Una loved taking care of the family dogs which there were many over the years.
Una fiercely loved her family, friends and her home county of Galway. No place was better than Galway. She had exquisite taste in everything she did. She was an excellent and dedicated nurse, completing her training in 1952 at Richmond Hospital, Dublin, Ireland. Over the next 30 years she worked in Ireland and California, specializing in polio and TB care.
Later in her work in Cappagh Orthopedic Hospital she cared for victims of trauma and children with cancer. She cut no corners and was rightfully proud of her nursing skills and career.
Her family would like to thank the nurses of The Hospice of Central Ohio whose dedication, respect and professional care was deeply appreciated. They would also wish to thank the caregivers of Home Instead who cared for Una in her last days.
Flowers may be sent to St. Francis de Sales Church for the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Heartbeats, 336 E Main St.,
