Ursula Walden Obituary

Published by Porter Loring Mortuary McCullough on Jan. 8, 2012.
Ursula Bernardoni Walden passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family on January 8, 2012. Ursula was born in Galveston, Texas to Nettie and John Bernardoni on December 3, 1921. Her family relocated to San Antonio when she was a child so her father could pursue his profession as a newspaper printer with the San Antonio Light. She remained a resident of San Antonio with many of its places and events creating the framework of her life. First among them her high school Alma mater, Brackenridge High School. A graduate of the class of 1939, she remained a loyal Brackenridge Eagle and was still active in the reunion group until recently. After high school her parents sacrificed so she could attend Our Lady of the Lake College (OLL). Even though she was unable to complete her degree due to finances, OLL remained forever close to her heart. After her college experience, she attended business school, learned secretarial skills and found employment as a legal and medical secretary. It was during those years that she met a young recruit from Oklahoma at the Catholic USO. After that meeting, Glenn Walden vowed never to let her out of his sight. Following his discharge from the Army, Glenn and Ursula married on July 16, 1946. Glenn began working in San Antonio's optical business and they promptly started their family. Ursula was the loving and supportive mother of Glenda Walden Carroll (Dennis), Sister Anna Walden, Steven Walden (Mardy) and Christine Walden Chesnut (James), all of whom graduated from Lee High School, instilling in them a strong faith in God. Very active in church life, she was a past president of the Altar Society at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and then became very active at St. Francis of Assisi. Her reach extended to Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women, where she held several offices in the Deanery for over twenty years. Most notable was her dedication to the support of seminarians. Ursula was a voracious reader, loved crosswords and football, especially the Dallas Cowboys and was a tremendous cook and homemaker. Ursula saved the richest of her devotion and love for her family. The family blossomed from her 4 children to 8 grandchildren: Nicholas Carroll, Colleen Carroll, Bridget Carroll Eaton, Stephanie Walden Hartman, Marisa Walden Lacey, Shane Walden, Matthew Chesnut and Jacob Chesnut, 2 great grandchilden: Taylor Glen Hartman and Aaron Glenn Eaton, and her sons and daughter-in-law, whom she considered part of her own family. After 90 years on this earth and 65 years of being dutiful, steadfast wife, she leaves us filled with blessings and treasured memories. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Porter Loring Mortuary North. ROSARY THURSDAY, JANUARY 12, 2012 7:00 P.M.
