I met Professor Larkey as a German and History student at Goucher in 2011. I took every course she taught and did my study abroad experience with her in Berlin. As a current educator and public school leader, I wouldn´t be where I am today if I hadn´t met Uta. Her Holocaust story telling class opened my eyes to the importance of making human connections and sharing lived experiences. Her legacy will live on through me in my love for German culture, history, story telling and education.

I met Uta in 1993 at Goucher College where I had an interview as a teacher for German. We were both from original from Germany Uta grew up in the former East Germany DDR and I grew up in West Germany BRD. I got the job and we became friends. Through her I got acquainted with the Waldorf School in Baltimore where my daughter Isabel had a wonderful year in kindergarten and I taught German for a year. I still have some friends that I met there in this wonderful community and Uta was a significant part of that community for many years. Although we were not much in touch during the past 15 years I still have very fond memories of her and our exchanges.
