Val Hymas Obituary

Visit the Farmer Funeral Chapel website to view the full obituary.

Val Gene Hymas, 73, of Filer, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on October 8, 2025.

Val was born on May 28, 1952, in Tooele, Utah, to Charles Junior and Billie Jeane Hymas. His young childhood was spent between Iowa and Utah while his father finished Veterinary School, after which they moved to California.

After finishing high school, he went to college in Utah and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Georgia/South Carolina Mission.

He met Lorinda Clark while they were working a summer job in Island Park. They fell in love and were married May 7, 1976.

They had the perfect companionship working side by side, and together they shared 49 wonderful years. They built a close and loving family while raising five children.

Val's strong work ethic was a hallmark of his life. A gifted mechanic, he began his career at Canyon Motor Subaru before launching his own service station, Val’s Auto Hospital in Filer, ID. After 7 years, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to start Soft Touch Power Wash and later a successful greenhouse. In his final years, he enjoyed what he called his “hobby job” at D&B Supply, sharing his passion for the outdoors and shooting sports. Ultimately, his career was defined not by the jobs he held, but by the way he held them; with a strong work ethic and integrity that turned customers into lifelong friends.

Val's greatest pride and joy was his family. He was a devoted father to five children who will miss him dearly.

Val is survived by his children; Richard (Lynnae) Hymas; Clark (Katie) Hymas; Kara (Troy) Warner; Janae (Dan) McCaughey; and Dustin (Madalyne) Hymas.

He was a proud grandfather to sixteen grandchildren: Aiden, MacKenzie, Connor, Kate, Aspen, Bryson, Oliver, Eliza, Tyler, Ashlyn, Cash, Jake, Brynlee, Thomas, Edison, Alexandra and a grandson on the way—each of whom he loved dearly.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Charles and Billie Jeane Hymas; brother, Charles Stephen Hymas; along with other loving family members.

Val was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. For most of his adult life, he served faithfully with the young men in the Scouting program, where he taught valuable life skills and helped guide young men to become responsible, hard-working adults. His quiet leadership and patient teaching left a lasting impression on many.

Val enjoyed many hobbies, including fishing, hunting, long-range target shooting, gardening, along with searching and shopping for a good deal. Whatever he took an interest in, he mastered—becoming an expert and happily sharing what he knew with others. Though quiet by nature, Val could talk for hours about the things he loved. He was kind, patient, and always had a teasing sense of humor that his family and friends will deeply miss.

Val’s life was a testament to hard work, devotion, and quiet strength. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his deep love for his family, his faith, and his unwavering determination through life’s challenges.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:”

— 2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)
