Val K. Peterson
July 13, 1964 – December 5, 2025
Val K. Peterson, a brave warrior, witty soul, and faithful patriot, entered heaven on Friday, following a fearless battle with cancer. Born July 13, 1964, in Granger, Utah, to parents William Kenneth Peterson and Carrol Jones, Val grew up in Layton, Utah.
Val was a loving husband and called his wife, Lorri, the love of his life-her name listed just that way on his phone. Lorri, in turn, called him her heart. Together, they built a family rooted in faith, laughter, and unwavering devotion.
Val's sense of humor was legendary, marked by a great sense of sarcasm and a playful desire to tease all those he loved. His quick wit and ability to bring laughter to any situation made him a joy to be around and created countless cherished memories for family and friends.
A true patriot, Val's love for America was evident in all he did. He served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps and continued his service and dedication as a leader in the Marine Corps League Albert E. Schwab Detachment 857 "Devil Dogs" in Oklahoma. Through his ongoing commitment to veterans and his community, he earned numerous medals and commendations, including the Bronze Distinguished Citizen Medal, Distinguished Service Medal, Notorious Individual Commendation, Silver Distinguished Citizen Medal, and Certificates of Appreciation-receiving multiple awards of each. Val wore his jacket with the Marine emblem on the back with pride and always displayed both the American and Marine flags at their home, replacing them immediately at the first sign of wear.
Val's professional life was as vibrant as his personal one. He was an accomplished General Contractor, Master Electrician, and Master Carpenter, as well as a skilled Electrical Estimator, and an outstanding Auto Mechanic. His dedication to hard work and excellence was evident throughout his career. He was honored to serve as commandant for the Marine Corps League in Oklahoma and was a member of the Huntsville, Ut American Legion. His passion for knowledge led him to teach Electrical Technology and Welding at Oklahoma State University's IT Division, inspiring many students along the way.
Val's faith was a guiding force in his life. As a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he cherished opportunities to teach and serve others, especially the youth. Val felt it was incredibly important to show young men how to be good men, and to demonstrate through his own example what a good and loving husband and father should be. He believed in living with strong moral convictions and always strove to be on the side of righteousness.
Val found great joy in the outdoors, especially camping with Lorri, their children, family, and friends. He loved riding ATVs snow machines, snow shoeing, shooting, and spending time tinkering and fixing just about anything, including helping family with projects, and embracing life's adventures. Val never planned anything that wasn't family centered; his family was always at the heart of everything he did.
Val's love for his family was profound and unwavering. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Lorri Peterson; son Dalton Barney; daughters, Cierra (Gary) Banner and Malorri (fiancé, Jordan) Barney; his grandchildren, Oliver, Eli, Cash, and Rome Banner and Eve Graham; his step-father, Les Byrd; grandmother, Evelyn Jones; siblings, Julane (Shannon) Henzler, Marvin (Jhen) Peterson, Wayne (Tracy) Peterson, Marilyn Darling, Hans (Amanda) Peterson; sister-in-law, Carrolee Peterson; and many beloved nieces and nephews. All will fondly remember Val as a loving and thoughtful man. He will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Kenneth Peterson; mother, Carrol Jones Byrd; brother, Daniel Peterson; grandmother, Doris Rucker; grandfathers, Morris Wade, Kenneth Peterson, and Val Jones.
