Val Sparrow Obituary
He was then married to Lynette Nielsen on July 7th,1978, in the Ogden Temple. Together they were blessed with 4 children, Jason (Liz) Sparrow, Drew (Ginger) Sparrow, Valynn (Toby) Spackman and Stephanie (Kaleb) Smith. They were married for 13 years. He married Barbi Rhoton on October 2,1992. Together they shared their daughter, Jessica Sparrow.
In 1998 he met his sweetie, Sherry Thomas, and they were married on January 1, 2000. He was blessed with 3 more step-children; Jeremy (Jenn) Stone, Jodie Hansen, Jennifer (Jon) Montisano.
He loved being outdoors, spending time with family and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer. He served in Law Enforcement for many years and ended his law enforcement career as Preston City Chief of Police. He also spent many years working as a parts guy for Napa Auto parts where he made many lifelong friends.
Val's siblings are: Gerald (Shirley), Myrna (Robert), Dennis (Sharon), Nola (Dennis), Coral (Stan), Rodger (Barbara), Gary, Dale (Lauralee) and Steven (Melanie) He is survived by his sweetie, Sherry Sparrow of 24 plus years, 7 siblings, 3 sibling-in-laws, all 8 children, 23 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 siblings and 5 siblings- in-law.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 S. 800 E., Preston, Idaho. Viewings will be held Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. both at Webb Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in the Whitney, Idaho Cemetery. I have many memories of Val all the way back to childhood since he was a friend of the family. He used to stop by to check on us often especially after my Mom passed away. He was a very caring, friendly, loving and supportive person who was always there when I needed to talk especially after my Dad passed away. Whenever I moved back to Preston or was just visiting he always made time to let me know he was thinking about us and was there if I needed anything. To be honest he was like a big brother. I will always miss his laugh, kind words, bear hug and smile. He was one of my favorite Police chiefs along with Chief Golightly. I will especially miss seeing him driving his patrol car pulling over to talk or ask if I need a ride back to my Grandma's because it was late at night. I will also miss getting to see him at the sidewalk sale/him giving my kids candy then looking at me and saying that they can have it just like he used to tell my Mom/Dad about us. I'm grateful to know that he's one of my Guardian Angels. Thank you for your service Sir! RIP VAL! I love and miss you big brother!

I'm sorry for your loss! My condolences and prayers for y'all! I will keep y'all in my prayers and thoughts! Val was a friend of my family. He was like a big brother and a father figure. He was always there when I needed someone to talk to especially after my Dad (Sid) died. I will miss him a lot. Thank you for your service Sir. You were an amazing person and an awesome officer. Grandma Emma Palmer was very proud of you.
