Valerie Lynette Yazzie, "Val", born June 1, 1957, to Harrison Anderson and Diane Noreen Cornelius, passed peacefully on July 19, 2025, in Green Bay, WI with family by her side. She grew up in Hartland, Wisconsin and graduated from Arrowhead High School in 1975.
In her formative years, she enjoyed bowling, shooting darts and roller skating. After high school she attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, then later Lakeland University where she earned a bachelor's degree in accounting. In 1988, she moved to Oneida, where she would eventually retire from the Accounting Department in Oneida Nation where she worked for many years. She also bowled and shot darts for a time in Green Bay as well.
Val was united in marriage to Joe Yazzie Sep. 4, 1999. She enjoyed spending time with good friends, traveling, kayaking, and caring for her dogs, Uskah and Teken. Val also spent many hours volunteering for Mit Liebe German Shepherd Rescue. Time spent with family for holidays and birthdays were cherished as well.
Val is survived by her husband, Joe Chee Yazzie, her children Jamie LeeAnn (Clinton) Willis and Jerilynn Virginia Doud. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Dakota Kaluhiyo Escamea, Genesis Paige Doud, Evelyn Allaire Willis, and Grayson Isaac Willis. Sisters Vivian (Pete) Dittel, Veronica Cornelius Glass, Victoria Cornelius LaFond; brothers Terry (Tania) Cornelius and Harry (Pa Ia) Cornelius, sister-in-law Kitty Pyzel, special friends Maggie Fermanich and Denise Freeman, and many nieces and nephews. Val is preceded in death by her parents, Harrison and Diane Cornelius, infant daughter, Jodi Lynn, and grandson Christopher John Doud.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Oneida United Methodist Church from 9:00AM – 11:00AM. Hymn Singers will sing at 10:30AM followed by service at 11:00AM.
