Valerie Jean Bobseine, 79, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025.
Born on February 9, 1946, in Jamestown, NY, Valerie was the daughter of the late Mary Cooper Anderson and the late Kenneth Anderson.
She was born in Jamestown, New York, and graduated from Jamestown Practical Nursing School in 1966. She married her high school sweetheart that same year, and in 1972, they moved to Charleston, South Carolina, where she spent most of her life. After retiring in their 50s, they moved to Columbia to be closer to family and to support her beloved Carolina Gamecocks, holding season tickets to football, baseball, and basketball for many years.
Val was a compassionate nurse for more than 30 years, working throughout the Lowcountry and earning Nurse of the Year honors at MUSC’s Department of Dermatology. She enjoyed spending time with many Gamecock friends. Val was also a devoted homemaker, talented cook, proud Patriot, and creative soul who loved crafting, decorating, and shopping. Known for her humor, outgoing nature, and generous heart, she never met a stranger and was a true fighter throughout life’s challenges.
She deeply loved her grandchildren and attended their activities whenever possible, including her granddaughter’s swim meet just one week before her passing. She will be deeply missed by many, especially her husband of 59 years, and remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, and devoted Gamecock fan.
In addition to her parents, Valerie is preceded in death by her brother, Bruce Anderson.
Valerie is survived by her husband, Douglas Bobseine; daughters: Wendy Parker, Kelly O'Brien and Robbin West; and grandchildren: Bryce O'Brien, Colby O'Brien and Perrin Parker.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, West Ashley. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 AM at the funeral home.
