Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jackson Funeral Residence of Jersey City on Nov. 30, 2025.
Valerie Ann Dunbar Garrison was born on April 17, 1962, at Margaret Hayes Hospital in
Jersey City, New Jersey, to Edward Dunbar and Brenda Harry Dunbar. She was educated in the Jersey City school system, attending School 15, School 34, and Lincoln High School.
As a young girl, Valerie was known to be gentle and a bit shy, never one to engage in confrontation. She had a lifelong love for cats, caring for several feline companions throughout her life. After graduating high school, Valerie entered the workforce with diligence and pride. She worked as a Packager at General Automotive in Kearny, NJ; later as a Mail Clerk at Midlantic Bank in Woodbridge, NJ; and finally as a Receptionist at Merck in Rahway, NJ.
But Valerie's true calling was never confined to any workplace. Her real passion- her heartbeat- was her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Though she accepted Him at age twelve, her walk with God deepened profoundly when she turned eighteen. In 1987, during a mission trip to Trinidad with Faith Fellowship in Edison, NJ, the Holy Spirit awakened her healing anointing, marking a turning point in her ministry.
A Servant of Christ
Evangelist and Prophet Valerie lived as a true servant of Christ. She led many souls to Jesus, spreading the Gospel with boldness, compassion, and unwavering faith. Throughout her short but impactful time on Earth, Valerie fed the hungry, brought healing to the sick, and even opened her home to provide shelter to those in need. Her ministry was not just in words, it was in action, in sacrifice, and in love. Miracles followed her obedience. Goiters fell from new believers; "fallen women" were restored; infertility was rebuked from coworkers and neighbors who longed to become mothers. Women from her home Bible studies and the Internet radio ministry testified of being healed from cancer. In 2004, Valerie co-founded Heart to Heart Ministries, continuing her mission to reach, restore, and revive God's people.
Valerie first married and became the mother of three children: Tracy, Tarsha, and Emmanuel. She later met and married her devoted husband, Neville Garrison, with whom she shared 36 years and 3 months of marriage, years filled with companionship, ministry, and mutual love.
Though Prophet Valerie loved Jesus deeply and loved people fiercely, she often felt that the love she poured out was greater than what she received in return. Yet she continued to serve, continued to give, and continued to love with the heart of Christ.
Prophet Valerie was preceded in death by her father, Edward Dunbar; her grandmother, Louise Harry, her sister, Marcia Dunbar; and her beloved daughter, Tracy Wright Chisholm, Son-in-Law; Lamar Burrows, In-Laws; Joan & T.A. Garrison Sr.
She leaves behind her mother, Brenda Bradforth; her loving husband, Neville Garrison; her children, Tarsha Wright Burrows and Emmanuel M. Wright; along with a host of Christian family, cousins, In-Laws, nephews, nieces, grandchildren, and one greatgrandchild who will carry her memory forward. Her favorite scripture was Luke 4:18–19, a passage that perfectly reflected her calling, her ministry, and her life: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed.
