Vallie Staten Obituary

Visit the A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home & Crematory website to view the full obituary.

Vallie Dalton Staten, age 94, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence Whittington Staten and Vallie Dalton Staten, and her sister Sylvia Staten Martin. She is survived by her sisters, Francis Staten Seelke and Connie Staten Panter, and her nephews and nieces, Edward Martin (Courtney), David Martin (Cissy), Michael Martin (Mary), Ellen Martin Marbut, Whit Seelke (Tracy), John Seelke (Sarah), Caroline Panter Reed (Bart), Cynthia Panter Forde (Mike).

Vallie was born in Atlanta, Georgia on May 26, 1931, at Emory University Hospital. She attended North Avenue Presbyterian High School (NAPS) and graduated from Valdosta State College. She continued her education at Tulane University to earn her Master's degree in Social Work, a field to which she became deeply devoted. Returning to Atlanta, Vallie went to work for the Fulton County Department of Family and Children Services (DFACS). She began as a social caseworker, traveling countless miles across Fulton County to care for children. She was committed to the Foster Care program for children throughout her life. She retired after 39 years, serving her final years with Fulton County as the Deputy Director of DFACS.

In retirement, she remained very active, continuing to engage with her community and the causes she cared about. As a member of the Colonial Dames, the daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC), the Rhododendron Women's Club and Clairmont Presbyterian Church, she was always willing to serve as an officer. But her true love in retirement was traveling with friends and family, gardening, and sharing adventures with her nephews and nieces, creating lasting memories. She cherished them dearly, often treating them to dinners and, on special occasions, even taking them on vacation. In return, they adored her and called her affectionately "Sister". She also loved spending time at Treetops, the family lake house in Hayesville, NC. A devoted animal lover, she had several cats and dogs over the years, the last of whom was named "Poncey", after Ponce de Leon, the street she lived off of in Decatur.

Her family appreciates the care and love she received from Holbrook of Decatur and their Inspired Living Program.

A service to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at A.S. Turner Funeral Home in Decatur, GA.
