Van Braegger Obituary
Van Del Braegger passed away at Rocky Mountain Care Center in Logan, Utah, on Monday, May 20, 2024, at the age of 60, battling prostate cancer. Born on August 7, 1963, in Providence, Utah, he was the youngest of the eight children of Kenneth Braegger and Darlene Buttars Braegger. He attended Sky View High School, after which he started his career in the cheese industry.
On June 21, 1986, he married Joan Elizabeth Payant in the backyard of Ken and Darlene’s home in Providence. They made their home in Logan and raised three children. He worked at Schreiber Foods for over 40 years. There, he helped everyone and anyone and was the epitome of hard work. Ask anyone who has worked alongside him, and they’ll mention his contagious smile.
Van was a free spirit who loved traveling and exploring the mountains in his jeep. Jeep rides were a Braegger family tradition passed down from his father. Though some outings turned into more of an adventure than anticipated, he always got everyone home safely. Van was an incredible landscaper and took pride in working in the yard, whether it was someone else’s or his own. Van was incredibly generous with his time and efforts, rarely thinking of himself, even while in the hospital.
He will be remembered for his glowing smile, warm personality, laugh, strong work ethic, generosity, compassion, beautiful yard, jeep, love of the outdoors, baritone voice, empathy, and always being an active listener.
Van is survived by his Partner, Eileen Miller, Richmond, Utah; dear friend (‘Van Brother’) McKay Miller, Richmond, Utah; Mother of his child and stepchildren, Joan Elizabeth Payant, Logan, Utah; Children: Zachary Braegger (Allison), Lakeside, Montana; Jessica Joerger (Curtis), Logan, Utah; Charles Joerger, Big Sky, Montana; Brothers and sisters: Lana (Steve) Barlow, Lyle (Sue) Braegger, Kim (Rozanne) Braegger, Thayne (Colleen) Braegger, Jan (Keith) Rasmussen, Roy (Janice) Braegger; sister-in-law Carrie Braegger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Braegger and Darlene Buttars Braegger, and his brother, Jeffrey Braegger.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2024, located at Van's residence at 50 E 5Th South, Preston, ID 83263.
