Mrs. Vanita Laverne Sargent (née Williams), age 84, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, in Hazelwood, Missouri.
Born on June 12, 1941, in Bakersfield, California, Laverne was the daughter of Arthur and Pearl (Mathis) Williams. She pursued her education with dedication and earned an associate’s degree in library sciences, a field that reflected her love for knowledge and organization.
Laverne shared a remarkable 65-year marriage with her beloved husband, Joseph (Joe) Sargent. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and enduring love. Their union was blessed with children: Joseph (Joe or Glenn) Sargent II and wife Angela; Lori Ann Lovins and husband James; and Lisa Kay Guiffrida and husband Peter.
She was a devoted grandmother to Nicholas Lovins; Alexis Voss and husband Tyler; Jeremy Stein and wife Kara; Sarah Sargent and husband Jasper; and Oscar Sargent. Her legacy continues through seven great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her later years.
Laverne is also remembered by her brother Arthur Williams and his wife Peggy; sister Ruby Blair; sister-in-law Leona Rosenow; brother-in-law Don Kissick; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins who cherished her presence in their lives.
She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Pearl Williams; parents-in-law Glen and Grace (Caldwell) Sargent; sisters Lena Vogler and husband Austin (Jr) and Lela Brewster and husband James; brother John Williams and his wife Charlotte; brother-in-law Wallace Blair; brother-in-law Robert Sargent and his wife Jean; sister-in-law Norma Kissick; and brother-in-law Donald Sargent and his wife Barbara.
A woman of deep faith, Laverne was a longtime member of The Church of God, where she worked as financial secretary for 30 years. She was secretary to the Pastor for 15 years as well. She was the treasurer for the Missouri Women of the Church of God group for 20 years Her commitment to her spiritual community was unwavering, reflecting the kindness and devotion that defined her character.
Laverne found joy in traveling, crafting, and spending time with family and friends. Her warmth touched all who knew her, leaving behind memories filled with laughter, creativity, and heartfelt connection. She enjoyed hosting the church Christmas parties in their home for many years.
May the memory of Mrs. Vanita Laverne Sargent bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
Memorials may be made in Vanita's name to Parkinson's Foundation.
