Vasileios Kavathas, born November 25, 1951, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, leaves behind a legacy defined by charm, ambition, and a zest for life. The son of Konstantinos Kavathas and Asegedech Woldemariam, he was raised in the Greek Orthodox faith and grew into a remarkable figure whose life was shaped by a fierce devotion to family, culture, and tradition. A captivating storyteller with a sharp mind and a generous spirit, he enriched every room he entered. Confident and steady, Vasileios carried himself with an assurance that inspired those around him, meeting every challenge head-on and for him, nothing was ever too big to overcome.
His appreciation for culture influenced every path he followed. A gifted linguist who spoke six languages-Amharic, Greek, English, Italian, French, and Spanish-he traveled to nearly 50 countries, returning home with the depth of the histories, traditions, music and people he encountered. A lifelong learner, he educated himself constantly, absorbing history, ideas, and experiences to feed his curiosity and expand his knowledge. His love for food became one of his greatest passions. He cooked with skill and served with pride, ultimately opening successful restaurants, including Acropolis, well-known in Ethiopia and top five in Africa. Acropolis welcomed guests from around the world, including former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. His entrepreneurial spirit extended far: he founded a travel company and set his sights on creating an agency in Greece. A man of impeccable taste, he was known for his distinguished presence-expressed through his signature colognes, his ambition, and the refined way he carried himself.
Though Vasileios charmed many, it was Roza Simatou who captured his heart and became the love of his life. They created a life together and raised four children. He is preceded in death by his father, Konstantinos; his mother, Asegedech; his brothers Tewodros and Giorgios Kavathas; and his sister Ioanna Kavathas. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Roza; his sons, Gabriel Kavathas and Alexander Kavathas; his daughters, Marianna Kavathas and Artemis Ramos (Justin); his sisters, Sophie Lowe (Kevin) and Paraskevi Kavathas; his brother, Michalis Kavathas (Martha); two cherished grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Respected and accomplished, Vasileios lived boldly and fully, leaving a lasting mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
