Obituary published on Legacy.com by Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home - Hagerstown on Nov. 13, 2025.
Velma "Sis" Naomi (Weaver) Filsinger, 99, of
Hagerstown, Md, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Seaton of Hagerstown.
Velma was born at home in Hagerstown on January 20, 1926 to David Finley Weaver and Maude G. (Warbel) Weaver. She was a 1944 graduate of Hagerstown High School. She was employed with Fleshers Dept Store, Potomac Motor Lines, Pangborn Corporation, and the Dixie Millwork company, retiring from the Dixie in 1994 following its closure.
Prior to her death, she was the oldest surviving member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Chewsville, MD, having joined the church in 1938. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Velma married Joseph "Joe" C. Filsinger on July 2, 1946 and cared for him until his death on November 11, 1999. They were happily married for 53 years. She loved him deeply and missed him greatly after his passing.
Aunt Sis was known for her kindness, her strength (despite her petite stature), and, together with her husband, her generosity. Their gifts enabled countless family and friends to make joyful memories with them, swimming in the summertime and exploring the mountains in the spring and fall. She grew and tended beautiful roses and even into her nineties, she took pride in maintaining her property with her John Deere riding mowers.
She had a constant presence in the lives of her nieces, nephews, and their children and grandchildren, attending nearly every birthday party, sports game, performance, and art show and visiting many of them at college. She always enjoyed having a good chat with anyone who visited and made sure you had a piece of candy before you left.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Allen D. Weaver, two sisters Lorraine (Weaver) Leather, and Sylvia (Weaver) Rider, her brother-in-law Richard "Dick" Rider, and 2 nephews, Bret L. Leisinger, and Steven A. Leather. She is survived by her sister, Connie (Weaver) Leisinger, brother-in-law Harvey C. Leisinger and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
