Velma Jean Holland, affectionately known by her beloved husband as "Sweetstuff," by her son and daughter-in-love as "Mom," by her two grandsons as "Grandma," and by her siblings as "Belt," peacefully entered eternal rest on October 12, 2025.
Born on September 11, 1948, in Greenville, Alabama, to the late John Henry and Lois Parmer, Velma's life was a beautiful reflection of faith, grace, and love.
In her early years, Velma relocated to San Diego, California, where destiny led her to meet the love of her life, Floyd Holland, Sr. They were united in marriage in November 1975 and together shared a lifetime of devotion, laughter, and unwavering love. Their union was blessed with one cherished son, Floyd Holland, Jr., who, along with his wife and their two sons, brought Velma immense joy and pride. Velma and Floyd Sr. remained devoted to one another until his passing, their love continuing to inspire all who knew them.
During her years in San Diego, Velma's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She served faithfully as a Deaconess Missionary and President of the Sunshine Band at Mount Olive C.O.G.I.C., where she joyfully dedicated over 20 years to nurturing others and sharing God's love.
After 29 wonderful years in San Diego, Velma and her husband relocated to
Atlanta, Georgia, where they became members of Holy Fellowship C.O.G.I.C. in Snellville. There, Velma continued her steadfast commitment to ministry, serving with the Women's Department for three years before the couple later joined Elizabeth Baptist Church in Douglasville.
At Elizabeth Baptist Church, Velma found her spiritual home and remained a devoted and faithful member for 17 years. She poured her heart into every ministry she touched-serving as Assistant Treasurer of the Hospitality Ministry, Team Lead of the Douglasville 3D Golden Years Ministry, and active participant in both the Widows and Widowers Group and the Women of Worship (WOW) Ministry.
At the time of her transition, Velma resided in Douglasville, Georgia, where she continued to embody a life deeply rooted in faith, love, and service-touching lives with her warmth, grace, and unwavering devotion to God, family and friends.
Velma will always be remembered for her radiant smile, gentle spirit, and compassionate heart. Her commitment to serving others reflected her deep love for the Lord and her generous spirit toward all she encountered. Whether through her encouraging words, her thoughtful acts of kindness, or her unwavering faith, Velma touched countless lives and left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Velma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Floyd Holland Sr., and her parents, John Henry and Lois Parmer. She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory her devoted son, Floyd Holland, Jr., her cherished daughter-in-love, Vivian Holland, and her adored grandsons, Nelson Holland and Nicholas Holland, the lights of her life. She is also lovingly remembered by her devoted siblings: sisters Ernestine Love, Lois Graham, and Faye Nichols, and brothers Henry Charles Parmer and Bruce (Akita) Parmer.
Velma's love and legacy will also be carried forward by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who were each blessed by her kindness, laughter, and unwavering faith.
Velma loved people deeply and brought warmth, grace, and kindness wherever she went. Though she has transitioned from this earthly life, Velma's light will forever shine in the hearts of those she loved. Her faith, grace, and kindness will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
