Velma Christine Wilder Lipps, age 97, of Morristown, Tennessee, formerly of Corbin, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024, in Morristown.
She was born on February 13, 1927, in Whitley County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Andrew J. Wilder and Victoria Susong Wilder. Velma was the last survivor of the Wilder’s ten children.
She was a former member of Central Baptist Church and then later attended Greenland Baptist Church in Corbin. She was a long-time standing member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Velma was the heart and matriarch of her family. She was an avid gardener and had a passion for cooking, sewing, quilting and crocheting.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Milton R. Lipps, her daughter Ginny Gillispie and her siblings Baylor Wilder, Elsie Yates, Vernon Wilder, Orena Morgan, Gladys McKeehan, Gillis Wilder, Gilbert Wilder, Myron Wilder and Paul Wilder.
She is survived by her daughter Christine Lynn Williams, son-in-laws Gary Williams, Gayle Gillispie, 5 Grandchildren Shannon Burk (Kenny), Shane Gillispie (Jessica), Brandon Hopkins (Lisa), Casey Davis (Jacob) and Carey Jones (Johnny), 13 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great grandchildren and another one on the way.
Visitation for Velma Lipps will be held from 12 noon until 2 pm on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2 pm with Rev. Luke Day officiating.
Burial will follow in the Ryan Cemetery in Whitley County, Kentucky.
