Velma Prough
Jerseyville - Velma Prough, 91, of Jerseyville passed away Friday, October 21, 2002 ay Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. She was born April 17, 1931 in Alton the daughter of Marie Silkwood. She married Lawrence Prough on October 26, 1952 in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death on March 19, 2016 .
She is survived by one son, Larry Prough of Boise, ID; two granddaughters, Kylie Prough of Boise, ID and Kelsi (Jake) West of St. Louis; two great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Bernard; brother and sisters-in-law, Kenneth (Betty) Prough of Jerseyville, Betty (Franklin) Thiebaud of Dallas, TX and Barbara (Roger) Folies of Carrollton and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Mike Prough; an infant daughter, Debbie Prough; several brothers and sisters and brothers and sister-in-law, Glenn Prough, Donald Prough (surviving wife, Marva of Carrollton) and Geraldine Prough.
Mrs. Prough retired from Jersey Community Unit School District 100, where she had been a cook. She attended Jerseyville United Methodist Church. She loved crafts which included making ceramic dolls. She enjoyed crocheting, and had made many afghans and dish cloths for family and friends. She will be remembered for her cinnamon rolls which along with the help of her husband had made for church functions.
A graveside will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at Mt. Gilead Cemetery, southwest of Carrollton. Memorials are suggested to Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com.
