Venita Young Obituary

Published by Legacy from Nov. 11 to Nov. 18, 2025.
Mrs. Venita Carolyn Fairley Young began her life on Monday, October 20,

1924; however, her season to step into eternity arrived on Monday, November

10, 2025, in the Port City of Mobile, Alabama. Mrs. Young was predeceased by

her parents, Ms. Addie Pippins and Mr. Frank Fairley; husband, Mr. Porter

Young, Sr.; son, Master Porter Young, Jr.; daughters, Ms. Gloria Young Graig

and Ms. Flora Young.

Mother Young was a native of Mauvilla, Alabama. In later years, she became

resident of Mobile, Alabama. She was a devoted member of Greater Mount Olive

Missionary Baptist Church #2, where she was the oldest member of the church.

She remained loyal and faithful until her health declined. She served as a

Missionary for over 60 years and was a member of Prayer Band #8, until the late

1990s.

Work ethics were a part of her way of life and she instilled her values to her

beloved family and friends. Emblematic of her strong work ethics, she taught

herself to learn life's skills due to her mother transitioning at a young age. After

many years of cooking, she perfected her craft. She was employed at the

Sheraton Hotel Downtown Mobile where she was hired as the Head Cook. She

taught the staff many cooking techniques and after many years of hard work, she

was promoted to supervisor until her retirement.

Mother Young will be remembered as a loving, helpful and resilient matriarch of

the family. The doors of her house were always open to family and friends. You

could stop by for fellowship, advice, or get a home cooked meal. Her wisdom

and knowledge about life would captivate the mind. When you departed from

her residence, you would always have learned a valuable lesson to carry you on

within this ever changing social order.

Lamenting her transition but cherishing her memories: six children, Mrs.

Geraldine Boggs, Waldorf, MD, Ms. Bernice Keeling, Mobile, AL, Mr. Damon

Burroughs, Jr., Mobile, AL, Mr. Harold Young, Mobile, AL, Mr. Al (Vaneesa)

Young, Mobile, AL, Mrs. Janet (Edward) Mitchell, Mobile, AL, Mr. Kennith

(Mary) Young, Daphne, AL; one brother, Mr. John "Red" Guy, Mobile, AL; one

sister, Ms. Addie Thomas, Washington, D.C.; nineteen grandchildren, Carlos

Burroughs, Tyrone Peterson, Stephanie Boggs, Monica Surles, Bruce Peterson,

Eric Boggs, Frederick Banks, Damon Burroughs, III, Michael Burroughs,

Kimberly Keeling, Lakisha Young, Kristen Boggs, Cleo Ruffin, Jr., Kanika

Keeling, LaTrice Young, Tiffany Ruffin, Asa Lao, Andre Mitchell and Cedric

Dale; a host of great grandchildren; great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews,

that she adored. She had an abundance of extended family members; the Baker

Family; her beloved church family who were dear to her.
