C.E. "Nick" Nichols of Lone Star, Texas, was born on March 18, 1931, and passed away on December 1, 2025, at the age of 94. Nick lived a long, full life devoted to his family, his community, and the many passions that brought him joy.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 5, 2025, at the Ore City Church of Christ. Visitation will take place from 6:00–8:00 PM on Thursday, December 4, 2025, in the Chapel of Horn Family Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Iron Bluff Cemetery.

Nick enjoyed many simple but meaningful pleasures in life, including mowing, cheering on Daingerfield football, and watching his sons race motocross. He was a hardworking and proud business owner, operating Nick's Tire Sales and Farmers Chicken in Lone Star for many years. He also served his community faithfully as a Lone Star City Council member and later as Mayor of Lone Star. He also served on the school board for Daingerfield. In recognition of his dedication and service, he was honored as Lone Star's Citizen of the Year.

Nick proudly served his country in the United States Army during the time of the Korean War.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Evaleta Nichols; his second wife, Ethel Jewel Durrett Nichols; his daughter, Aleta Ann Kelly; his parents, Seaborn Nichols and Hilma Graham; and two brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his children: Sherry Coleman and husband Johnny of Ore City; Chuck Nichols and wife Mindy of Ore City; and Andy Nichols and wife, Katie of Longview. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Brad Coleman and wife Amanda of Keller; Cory Coleman and wife, Rania of Ore City; Clayton Coleman of Ore City; Stacy Orms and husband J.T. of Longview; Trisha Wilson of Hughes Springs; Kayla Gurley and husband Clinton of Overton; Heather Boyd of Hughes Springs; Peyton Nichols of Longview; and Aaron Kelly. He leaves behind 14 great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his memory and legacy.

Yesterday

For having lived in Lone Star only eight years, I still carry many wonderful memories of Mr. Nichols. I looked up to him as a strong father figure and a hardworking man. He cared deeply for his family and for his family´s friends, and for that I remain grateful. Even though I´ve been away for 52 years, my memories of Lone Star are still vivid-thanks in part to Nick-because he was one of the many generous spirits of Lone Star who will always remain in my heart. To the family: May the Lord surround you with His comfort during this time of sorrow as Nick is welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven.
