Vera Frances Russell, was born July 31, 1924, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, to Hubert and Myrtle Wright. She departed this life on November 10, 2025, in Sherwood.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harmon Russell; her parents, Myrtle and Hubert Wright; her sister, Jean Shinn; and her brothers, Don Wright and Edward Wright.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Finch (Keith); her granddaughter, Natalie McRae (Justin); her great-granddaughter, Lyla McRae; and her nephews, Mark Wright (Kathy) and Jon Scott Wright (Paige). She is also survived by Kevin McConnell, a close family friend whom she loved like a son. His support, especially in her later years, meant the world to her.
Vera married Harmon Russell, on July 12, 1946. They met, fell in love, and married just two months later, beginning 51 years of devoted partnership.
Vera shared a close and loving relationship with her daughter, Karen, and her son-in-law, Keith. In her final years, Karen and Keith became devoted caregivers, ensuring Vera was surrounded by constant support.
Vera built a remarkable real-estate career that spanned nearly five decades. She worked with Lakehill Realty, Real Estate Central, and McKimmey Associates. She earned a place in the Million Dollar Club and proudly kept her real-estate license active even after turning 100. She was even known in her later years to try to sell real estate from her hospital room. When Vera’s mobility started to decline, she turned to Byron and Marilyn McKimmey and Brooks McRae to show property while she handled the majority of selling over the phone. Brooks once commented that Vera was the only realtor he knew who could sell property without ever laying eyes on it.
One of the greatest joys of her life was her granddaughter, Natalie. Their weekend tradition of shopping and going out to eat began when Natalie was a toddler and continued into Vera’s mid-90s. Natalie’s friends adored her as well and affectionately called her ‘Nana,’ just like Natalie did.
Another great joy in her life was her great-granddaughter, Lyla. She never missed a chance to brag on her, share a story, or show off pictures to anyone who came by.
The family is deeply grateful for the devoted friendship and help of Robert Bonds, Marna Givens, Diane Ford, Dr. Joe Buford and Gwen and David Reddoch, whose kindness brought comfort during Vera’s final years. Special thanks as well to her caregivers, Marty Jackson and Julie Clayton of JC Care Services.
Her service will be held in the chapel at First Pentecostal Church of North Little Rock on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., graciously offered by Bishop Joel Holmes, a longtime friend of Vera’s.
