Obituary of Vercal G. Reddick

On August 6, 2025, Vercal Reddick was peacefully called home at Guthrie Corning Hospital.

Vercal was born on February 7,1930 in Beaufort County NC. She was the daughter of Phrosen Spencer-Reddick and William Jordan Reddick. She attended public school in North Carolina where after school, she gardened to help her family out. She attended Antioch Church of Christ Disciples of Christ, Pantego, North Carolina.

In her early teenage years, Vercal relocated to New York City. While still in school, she balanced her studies with work and babysitting. God blessed her with a passion to care for people and rewarded her with a successful career as a registered nurse. After graduating college, she started nursing at Bellevue Hospital then Kings County Hospital, Brooklyn NY. During this time, she attended the Macedonia Church of Christ.

In the 1970s, she moved her family to upstate New York where God blessed her with a job as a registered nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at St. Joseph's Hospital. After 32 years of nursing, Vercal retired from St. Joseph's Hospital. She enjoyed being a member of the Women's Missionary and Gospel Pearls Choir at St. Paul's Missionary Baptist Church. She found great joy and cherished her role as an active member of Resurrection Tabernacle Church, where she was later honored by Paster Glover to be one of the Mothers of the Church.

Vercal found joy in simple yet meaningful pleasures such as sewing, crafting, fishing, cooking, spending time with family and helping others. She is preceded by her loving mother Phrosen, father William, son David, brother William (Snook) and beloved William (Buddy). She leaves behind a son Anthony, two daughters Bernadette and Phrorene, nine grandchildren Anthony, Brieanna, Edward, Felicia, John, Justin, Nakia, Russell and Timicka. Growing through union ship; Shanicqua and Joseph, a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was a loving, selfless, and faithful servant of God whose unwavering faith and wise spirit guided us through life's trials. Her grace, kindness, and forgiving spirit were a beautiful blessing to all who knew her-radiating joy, thoughtfulness, and generosity in every moment. She touched many lives with her caring heart, inspirational perseverance, and uplifting presence, leaving us forever grateful for the amazing legacy she shared.

Family and friends are invited to visit Resurrection Tabernacle, 954 Lake St., Elmira on Friday, August 15th from 12:30 to 1 pm. Her funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Rev. Gerald Glover will officiate. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice. The family appreciates all of your prayers thoughts and acts of kindness.

With heartfelt gratitude, the family kindly shares that there will be no repast following the service.
