Services In Loving Memory of Ms. Verdine James Stallworth, age 82, a native of the Choctaw Bluff Community of
Jackson, AL, and a resident of
Chattanooga, TN will be held Saturday, January 10, 2026, viewing 10am until the 11am service at New Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, 65 New Canaan Road, (Choctaw Bluff Community),
Jackson, AL 36545; Rev. Dr. Hurley James, Pastor and Eulogist. Following the interment in the Church Cemetery, the family will receive friends in the dining hall of the Church.

OBITUARY
Ms. Verdine Stallworth was born November 26, 1943 to the late George Washington and the late Millie James. She departed this life January 1, 2026 surrounded by family in
Chattanooga, TN.
Ms. Stallworth was a member of New Canaan Missionary Baptist Church and was a graduate of Harper High School. Her hobbies included watching soap operas and game shows. Among her favorites were The Bold and The Beautiful, Family Feud and Lifetime TV. Most of all she found great joy in hosting family gatherings. Everyone looked forward to her delicious cooking and warm hospitality. As years passed and due to health concerns, Ms. Stallworth relocated to Chattanooga with her devoted niece, Millie.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by four children: Gregory Washington, Corey Washington, Andrew Washington and Markell Washington; siblings: Tom Washington, Herman Washington, Irene Rocker, Jerry Mitchell, James Washington, Willie Mitchell, and Thyria Mitchell.
Those left to cherish her memories include her son: Avieon Thorpe Washington of
Chattanooga, TN; three brothers: Lenzy (Nadean) Washington of Milwaukee, WI; Franklin (Marion) Mitchell of Mobile, AL; Timothy Mitchell of
Jackson, AL; two sisters: Joann Brown of Mobile, AL and Flora Glisper of Milwaukee, WI; seven grandchildren: Shirlysia Daniel, Gregory Daniel, Sheena Coleman, DeAndra Washington-Brown Jeyden Vazquez, Ebony (Kendall) Foxx, Corshaun Washington; seven great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; two devoted friends: Marilyn Simon and Dora Robinson.
