Funeral services for Verla Ardell Hutchison, 96, will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Rd. in Shreveport. A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Officiating the service will be Rev. Gary Cavalier and Rev. Scott Holmes.
Verla was born on March 8, 1926 in Presque Isle, Maine to James Everette and Clara T. Brown and passed away on Monday, January 9, 2023 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Verla, affectionately known as “Granna,” is a resident of Shreveport. She married John Lester Hutchison in 1948 and loved spending time with her family. Reading was her second passion behind her family. Verla worked for the VA during WWII. After the war, she worked as executive director for Rollins Trucking and later served as church secretary for numerous churches, her last one being Life Church for over 31 years. She loved working for the church.
Verla is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Lester Hutchison; grandson, William P. Hearron; and great-grandson, Logan Hunter Hinkie; two sisters and two brothers. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Miriam Berthelot (Lee), granddaughers, Evelyn Joy Hearron and Sheron McGill; grandchildren, Michael Boykin (Kayleigh), Jasmine Rogers (Nathan), Caitlyn Glassford (Dillon), Curtis Thompson, Christian Rabalais (Kendall), Zoe Hearron; sister, Clarice B. Dunlop; and five great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honoring Verla as pallbearers will be Christian Rabalais, Dillon Glassford, Nathan Rogers, Curtis Thompson, JoBen Murray and Steven Riordan. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Shoumaker, Gary Foster, Arthur Houston and Lee Hernandez.
The family would like to express special thanks to Rev. Gary Cavalier, Rev. Scott Holmes and Rev. Carlton Gilmer, Dr. Sally Ball, Cornerstone Rehab Hospital, Encompass Health and The Carpenter House.
