Vern Charles Smith, of Ste. Genevieve, entered eternal rest on November 19, 2025, at Farmington Presbyterian Manor at the age of 94. He was born on February 2, 1931, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Verne and Virginia (Guion) Smith.
Vern devoted his life to those he loved most. Nothing brought him greater joy than time spent with his family, whether gathered at home, out on the farm, or simply enjoying each other’s company. He worked as a cement finisher for more than 40 years and was known for his strong work ethic and quiet dedication. He was a member of Farmington Christian Church Disciples of Christ. In his spare moments, Vern enjoyed bird hunting and caring for his bird dogs, and he took great pride in his farm.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Smith; his children, Vernon Smith (Elaine) and Tracy Pohl; his grandchildren, Jake Pohl, Rebecca Yust, and Lindsey Wood; his great-grandchildren, Grace Pohl, Kate Pohl, Lainey Yust, Abigail Yust, Vincent Wood, and Cecilia Wood; and his siblings, JoAnn, Sharon, Donald, and Dennis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Virgil, Gene, Shirley, Robert, Stanley, and Richard; and the mother of his children, Dolores Smith.
A memorial visitation will be held on December 9, 2025, at Farmington Christian Church Disciples of Christ from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m., officiated by Pastor Alan Berry.
