Vernard Winton Sr

Vernard Winton, Sr., 71, of Collierville, TN passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on December 9, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Vernard, also known as "Nob", "Fat", "Nard", "Vern", was one-of-a-kind; as he often said, "The best that did it, and got away with it" was known for his infectious laugh, huge sense of humor, quick sayings, grill skills, and love for his family. Most of all, Vernard loved the Lord, walked upright and was a humble man.

Born and raised in Collierville, he attended local schools, graduating from Fayette Ware High School, Class of '72. He accepted Christ at a young age and continued serving the Lord. He worked for Ozark, Milwaukee Sanitation Dept., and US
Postal Service where he retired. He loved to travel, cut his lawn, joke, read his bible, work on cars, play bass guitar, and watch sports and Westerns.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Boyd Boswell and Louise Winton; grandparents; wife Karen Winton; and sister Sharon Kay Winton.

Vernard is survived by his children, Naketa Winton-Mimes (Johnny), Steve Hardin, Jr., Vernard Winton, Jr. and Eddie Rone; grandchildren, Kaiya, Torian, Demetrious, Cameron, Hezekiah, Queen, Edison, Veelah; brother, Fletcher Winton; sister, Delores Boswell-Johnson; mother-in-law, Emma Russell, and a host of loving relatives and dear friends. We continue to honor his legacy by living humbly.

Viewing Wednesday, December 17, 2025 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Golden Jerusalem M.B. Church, 3555 Highway 57, Piperton, TN 38017. Funeral service Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Scot Ward Funeral Services, 699 American Legion Rd., Conyers, GA 30012. Entombment in Green Meadow Memorial Gardens, 677 American Legion Rd., in Conyers.
