Mrs. Vernie Rose Harris Wilson, age 82, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother went home to be with the Lord peacefully on September 23, 2025 in Abingdon, Virginia. Born February 1, 1943 in Buchanan County, Virginia, she was a cherished daughter of the late Carson and Lucy Wilson Harris and spent her entire life in the beautiful mountains of Council, Virginia. She was of the Freewill Baptist faith and attended Mt. Zion Church.

Vernie's life was rooted in faith, family, and the simple joys of God's creation. She found delight in tending her flower gardens, where every season bloomed under her careful touch. Cooking was another of her greatest joys – her home was always filled with the comforting aroma of her homemade biscuits, garden vegetables, and the recipes she lovingly passed down to her children and grandchildren. Whether canning summer vegetables, baking for Sunday dinners, or making holiday treats, her kitchen was truly the heart of her home.

A creative spirit, Vernie loved arts and crafts of every kind. From sewing and quilting to small handmade decorations, she filled her home with beauty and left behind treasures that will be cherished for generations. She also enjoyed simply being outside, taking in the mountains, birdsong, and fresh air that reminded her of God's handiwork.

In addition to her parents, Vernie was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Charlie Wilson; four siblings, Bertlee Harris, Nadine Stevens, Grady Harris, and Ola Gay Harris; and one special daughter-in-law, Carlene Wilson.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Rita Rasnake and husband, Willis, Burton Wilson and wife, Renae, Carolyn "Polly" Rasnake and husband, Jeff; and Wilburn Wilson and wife, Ramona; grandchildren, Holly Chambers and husband, Shane, Rebecca Colley and husband, Christopher; Charlie Rasnake and wife, Breanna, Chelsey Wilson, and Kayla Maggard and husband, David; honorary grandchild, Levi Mackey; great-grandchildren, Easton, Anistyn, Claudia, and Charli Chambers, Lennox Honaker, Indie Beavers, Fischer Rasnake, and Kanaan Maggard; siblings, Arlene Musick, Roy Harris and wife, Harriet, Clyde Harris, Brady Harris and wife, Lorraine, Zola Harris, Harlis Harris and wife, Linda, and Roger Harris; two step-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Abingdon Health & Rehab and special volunteer and friend, Jacob Kanipes for their compassionate care and kindness.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. James Sims and Rev. Edward Tiller officiating. Interment will follow in the Wilson Cemetery at Council, Virginia.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Rasnake, Shane Chambers, Christopher Colley, David Maggard, Dexter Wilson, David Wilson and Richard Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Harris, Clyde Harris, Brady Harris, Harlis Harris, and Roger Harris.

The family will receive friends after 6 PM Saturday at Honaker Funeral Home, where an evening service will be conducted at 7 PM.
