Vernon Thomas

Vernon Dewane Thomas, 81, was born on February 6, 1945, in Antlers, Oklahoma, the son of Virgil Albert Thomas and Yolander Grelena (Wall) Northrip. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia Ann Thomas; infant brother, Billy Gene Thomas; sister, Patty Ruth (Thomas) Babcock and niece, Rebecca Ann "Becky" Smith.

Vernon was a lifelong resident of Pushmataha County. He married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Hacker, on July 14, 1966 in Atoka and they made their home in Moyers. Vernon got drafted into the military in 1966 and proudly served his country in the United Stated Army.

After his time in the military, he worked construction and later found his true calling, ranching. He was a true cattle and horseman, and he was deeply respected within the ranching community for his knowledge and experience. Vernon spent countless hours in the saddle and riding side-by-side across the pastures tending to his livestock. His love for the outdoors didn't stop there. Vernon loved fishing and hunting, especially hog hunting and trapping. He knew the land like the back of his hand and his love for it was felt by all who knew him. Above all else, Vernon's love for his family and loved ones knew no bounds. His legacy is one of love for the land and dedication to all he held near. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his loved ones forever.

Vernon is survived by his four sons; Dewane Thomas and spouse, Mitzi, Randy Thomas and spouse, Lee Ann Fisher, Jody Thomas, Bradley Thomas and spouse, Kathy; bonus sons, Kenneth Williams and Brandon Motley; daughter-in-law, Shannon Mckenzie; grandchildren, Garrett, Tyrel, Tanna, Stacey, Taylor, Katelyn, Kamie, Jennifer, Mark, Ryan, Desiree, and Alyssa; 21 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter and a host of other family, many friends and loved ones.
