Vernon Curtiss Thygeson, age 88, of Thief River Falls, MN, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2025. He was born on August 13, 1937, in Thief River Falls, the beloved son of Hollis and Ida (Curtiss) Thygeson.

Vernon was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Thief Lake. He attended country school in the area, beginning a life rooted in faith, family, and community.

As a young man, Vernon faced the challenge of contracting polio. Through his own determination and strength, he rehabilitated himself and was soon able to return to helping on the family farm - a testament to his resilience and unwavering spirit.

His mother, Ida, had a deep love for horses, and it was through her influence that Vernon developed a passion for thoroughbred racing. That passion led him on adventures across North America, racing his thoroughbreds in Winnipeg, along the East Coast, in Mexico, and California. His dedication to the sport and love for the animals were evident in every race.

Vernon lived quite an interesting life - full of grit, adventure, and independence. He did it his way, and those who knew him admired his strength, determination, and unique spirit.

Survivors include his nephews: Mike Thygeson, Bruce (Kelly) Thygeson, and Monty (Jan) Thygeson, all of Thief River Falls; along with many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Hollis and Ida Thygeson; and siblings DuWayne Thygeson, Gayl Blom, and Sharon DeOgny.

Private family services will be held.
