Veronica Ottey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heritage Mortuary - Las Vegas from Apr. 1 to Apr. 2, 2021.
At 68 years old the Lord sent down his angels to deliver Veronica Ottey to him on March 22,2021.

Veronica was born February 27,1953 to the late George and Roberta McLemore in Las Vegas, NV. She was the second of three daughters. She attended Kit Carson Elementary School, Roy Martin Junior High School, and Clark High School. She then pursued a career at the State of Nevada Workman Comp and then went on to become a Family Service Specialist for the Nevada State Welfare where she retired after 34 years.

Veronica gave her life to Christ in her early 30's and joined St. John C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of the late O.L. Jefferson, which later became Portals to Glory C.O.G.I.C under the Late Robert Jefferson, where she became a licensed missionary, the president of the usher board, an active member of the choir, Young Women Christian Council, Hospitality and various auxiliaries in the church. She was also a Sunday school teacher and the first to host Thom Thom wedding. Her favorite scriptures are Mathew 7:7 and Romans 8:28. She later joined Ebenezer C.O.G.I.C. under the leader of the Superintendent Bill McDonnell, before returning home to Portals to Glory under Superintendent Cleo Jamerson Jr.

Veronica was known for her loving sweet spirit and being the spiritual glue for her family. She was kind, free hearted, and very faithful. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. She would pray for anyone even if you did not want prayer. She was never without her bottle of oil and was not afraid to use it. She made sure her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews knew who God is and the importance of a relationship with him.

Veronica received her crown of reward on March 22,2021 and is proceeded in death by her parents George and Roberta McLemore. Holding precious memories in the hearts to cherish: Two sons: Charles R. Hill (Jenny Calvillo), Dwayne Ottey Jr. of Las Vegas, NV, Her only daughter: Nakia Washington of Las Vegas, NV, Eight Grandchildren: Charles M. Hill, Tatyana S. Brown, Kenyonne M. Brown, Elijah C. Years have past since I retired from SIIS. While I worked there, I had the very good experience of knowing Ronnie, all of us there were, I recall, rather much like one big Family. My memories of Ronnie, are truly the best, she was always friendly, liked by all, a genuinely very fine person, her religious beliefs, quite sincere and earnest. Of all the people I have known, I can honestly say, that she impressed me as one of the finest people I have ever met. Most sincere condolences to all of her family, all of her many many loved ones.

Mama you are my life, my confidant, my everything I know what I have to do more then ever now to be with you again. You have taught me to be exactly who I am today and the appreciation runs so deep. When NO ONE believed in me, it didn´t matter because you did. Thank you Jesus for blessing me to have such a wonderful, spiritual, loving, beautiful, faithful mother. Mom you truly are one of a kind. I love you mama and this pain is excruciating now but that is just to make sure I change my life even more to be with you again. My mom

Momma was the best. I could not have asked for a better mother. When EVERYBODY gave up and counted me out; she was still there telling me how I was destined for greatness. Me alone, has taken Veronica through so much, and it was always her strength and love that pulled me through. This demo of a strong woman, managed to raise a strong man. I remember not too long ago she explained to me to keep my heart as sweet as possible at all times. She went on to explain to me that no matter how many people has taken advantage of her kind heart who has wronged her in any kind of way she will continue to do just has she has. She said, "Jr, u keep that heart you continue to give give give your time, money, and energy, to those who need it and God will continue to bless you." From that moment, I knew, this is what I must do.

Prayers & condolences to the family.
We grew up with Ronnie in late 50's, 60's& 70's in Las Vegas {Berkley Square} neighborhood.

I remember Her mom {Mrs. McClemore} would call Ronnie & Georgie home with a loud voice {Ronnnnnie, Georgieeee} & when I was a (little girl) I had a fever blister Ronnie said "use some ear wax"; I said: "we don't have any" she laughed & said its in your ear, that is a fond memory as is playing tether ball, stick ball, kick ball

Ronnie had a high pitch voice and she seemed to have never aged, a beautiful face, bright smile.

I left Vegas for 25 years and had seen Ronnie only a few times over the years but even still; childhood memories never fade.

Nonetheless, she & Dorothy my sister were childhood friends and of same age group were still in contact.
