Veronica Constance (Salvador) Paschall
Veronica (Salvador) Paschall peacefully transitioned from the earthly world on December 15, 2023, at 95 years young.
Veronica was born at home assisted by a midwife on July 15, 1928, in Alameda, California, to Felix and Alexandria Salvador, immigrants from the Azores Islands in Portugal, who became proud American citizens. Veronica was their only child, and they spoiled her rotten. She attended Berkeley High School, worked at a soda fountain during her teen years, and never missed a dance, one of her favorite lifelong activities.
In the years following graduation, she worked at a life insurance company, where she met the love of her life, Joseph Paschall, from North Carolina. They were wed at the historic Mission Carmel in 1951. They lived in Berkeley until 1964, at which time they moved to Pleasant Hill, California, where they raised four wonderful children.
Veronica was an amazing secretary for 45 years and was dubbed "The Fastest Fingers in the West"! She worked for a variety of firms over the years, including attorneys, insurance companies and an entertainment agency, eventually working for Contra Costa County for a long period of time until her retirement.
Veronica was very active in the City of Pleasant Hill and was President of Sherman Acres Homes Association for many years. She organized countless activities for that neighborhood, including haunted houses, holiday decorating contests, Santa's Village (sometimes playing Mrs. Claus), and spearheaded the building of creative floats for Pleasant Hill's 4th of July parades. One of her favorite holidays was Halloween, where she loved to play the "Wicked Witch of Sherman Acres." She and Joe also hosted legendary neighborhood parties, replete with good food and drink, laughter, singing, dancing, and enjoying good times with family and friends. Veronica also enjoyed knitting, music, attending city council meetings, politics, voting, as well as a wide variety of community services.
Veronica was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Joe. She is survived by her four loving children -- Alexis Friedhaber (Donald); Alicia Faulkner; Jeffrey Paschall (Betty); and Alanna Basile. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Benjamin Faulkner (Amy); Randi Scott (Dave); Kara Friedhaber-Njaa (Jake); and Todd Friedhaber (Shalene); and her great-grandchildren -- Taylor, Calum, Cadance, Corinne, Henrietta, Tyson, Salvador, Sloan and Brynn.
A visitation will take place at Oak Park Hills Chapel on Wednesday, December 27 from 1-5 p.m. A memorial service to honor and celebrate Veronica's life will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Oak Park Hills Chapel in Walnut Creek, immediately followed by burial at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette.
IN LIEU OF YOUR DONATION OF FLOWERS, A Memorial tree with a plaque will be planted at Pleasant Hill Park in Veronica's name.
