Veronica Dorothea Travers Sison

Veronica Dorothea Travers Sison passed away peacefully at her home at Hidden Springs Senior Living in Bentonville, Virginia, on November 5, 2025 with her three loving daughters at her side. She was 94 years old. Mrs. Sison was born on September 18, 1931 in Stonington, Connecticut to the late Anna and Manuel Travers. She retained her New England accent throughout her life despite moves to the Philippines, Virginia, New York, New Jersey, and Maryland. She graduated from Stonington High School as salutatorian and from the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse, with additional studies at Boston College. She met her husband, the late Pastor B. Sison, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. They married in 1954 and moved to the Philippines in 1956 for two years.

Mrs. Sison taught science at the American School of Manila and then served as a Registered Nurse at Arlington Hospital in Arlington, Virginia. She enjoyed fall leaves, the beach, gardening, and, above all, spending time with her large and joyful family. An avid traveler, she visited Italy, France, Sweden, Taiwan, Greece, Japan, Mexico, Hong Kong, Thailand and many more locations.

Survivors include three daughters (Michele Sison of Washington, D.C.; Victoria Sison Morimoto of Luray, Virginia; and Cynthia Sison Morrissey of San Diego, California), nine grandchildren (Tom, Michiko, Dan, Alexandra, Jessica, Andy, Emiko, Siena, and Gianna) and eleven great-grandchildren (Taylor, Everly, Charlotte, Emily, Olivia, Anna, Rosemary, Rowan, Silas, Oliver, and Yumiko). Mrs. Sison was predeceased by her husband, Pastor Sison (2013); a daughter, Katherine Magdalena Sison (1957); her parents; and her brothers, William and Joseph Travers.

A longtime resident of Bowie, Maryland, Mrs. Sison was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bowie before moving to Riderwood Senior Living in Silver Spring, Maryland and then Hidden Springs. A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Chapel in Bowie, Maryland on December 10, 2025.
