VI STENGER Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brickman Bros. Funeral Home - Willoughby on Dec. 11, 2025.
Violet "Vi" Ann Stenger (nee Connell) was born Sept. 3, 1929. Her parents are the late John and Margaret Connell (both from Ireland). Her siblings are: Eileen Connell (deceased), Peg Brennan (deceased) and husband Pat (deceased), Kathleen McCoy and husband Tom, Joe Connell and wife Ruth (deceased). She married Delbert "Jerry" Stenger on August 30, 1952. Jerry died in 2015 after 63 years of marriage to Vi. They had five children: Fr. James, Daniel (Kathy), Thomas (Mary), Susan Barber (Gene), Robert (Brenda). She is the grandmother of 13 and great-grandmother of 32 who brought a smile to her face each time she saw them; with 2 on the way. Vi is the aunt of many and the sister-in-law of Larry Stenger (Margie).

Vi grew up at Immaculate Conception Parish in Willoughby and attended grade school there. She graduated from high school at Andrews School for Girls in Willoughby. She then worked at Addressograph-Multigraph in Euclid after graduation. Once married she became a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in Mentor where she was active for 73 years.

Vi was a faithful and devoted Catholic woman her entire life, who loved our Lord and had a special devotion to our Blessed Mother. She was a Eucharistic Minister at the church and visited the area nursing homes with Holy Communion and recitation of the rosary. Violet was a former member of: The Christ Child Society, Saint Vincent de Paul Society, Saint Mary Helping Hands, Parents of Priests, St. Francis Mission Circle #3, Cub Scout den mother for Pack 75 at St. Mary Parish, and St. Mary's Ladies Guild. After 96 years of a beautiful and faith-filled life as a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, God called her home on December 8th, 2025, the feast of the Immaculate Conception.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday Dec. 15 at 10 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 8560 Mentor Ave. in Mentor (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon.

The family will receive friends from 2-5 PM Sunday Dec. 14, at Brickman Bros. Funeral Home, 37433 Euclid Ave. in Willoughby.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to: The Christ Child Society of the Western Reserve, St. Mary Helping Hands, and Birthright Lake, Inc.

Vi was one of my grandmother's (Louise Kocis) dearest friends. I will always appreciate how she was there for my grandma when my grandpa passed. They stuck together through thick and thin. Now they're together in heaven. Sending lots of love from the Kocis family!
