Vicki Wood Barron

Victoria (Vicki) Wood Barron, 79, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Wesley Woods of Newnan. Vicki was born August 14, 1944, in Newnan at the old Newnan Hospital to the late Woodie T. Wood and Alice Kimble Wood Borders. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Bentley Marie Barron.
Vicki grew up on a rural farm on Poplar Road where she would play in the road while only a few cars would pass by on any given day. She attended schools in Coweta and was a 1962 graduate of Newnan High School. Vicki also graduated from Falls Business School in Atlanta. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church.
Vicki was not just an animal lover, but a community leader. She rescued and cared for countless cats, dogs, and even her adopted peacock, Tillybird. Her efforts extended beyond her personal care of animals, as she played a key role in planning and fundraising for the no-kill animal shelter in Coweta County. In a single year, she saved over 300 animals. Her commitment to this cause was unwavering. She was an organizer and board member of the annual Ferst Lewis Grizzard and Catfish Memorial Bike Ride. Later in life, she found joy in traveling, gardening, and her feline companions.
The funeral is at 4 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2024, in the historic sanctuary of the First Baptist Church with Dr. Jimmy Patterson & Rev. Joel Engle officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The visitation is Saturday evening between 5-7 at McKoon Funeral Home. Vicki's love and care extended to her family, whom she adored. She is survived by her husband, Frank Heery Barron; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Justiss Blackburn and Robert Matthew Blackburn; son and daughter-in-law, James Victor Ivery and Kimberly Gregory Ivery; son, Frank Heery "Jess" Barron, Jr. and Meredith Rich Barron; grandchildren, Robert Matthew Blackburn, Jr. (Brittany), Julia Victoria Blackburn Owens (Russell), Braelinn Lindsey Barron; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Nora Ann Wood; brothers, Woodie T. Wood, Jr., Joseph Elliott Clark, Jr.; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Her love and care will always be remembered.
