Vicki Cox Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Denbo Funeral Home - English on Dec. 12, 2025.
Vicki Anne Cox, age 72, passed away on December 9, 2025.

She was born in Jeffersonville. Indiana and grew up along the river. She graduated from Clarksville High School in 1971.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Martha S. and Maurice "Boots" Burns, and her sister Rebecca S. Ward, her aunts, Barbara Mattingly and Judy Mattingly, and her uncle, Ralph "Sonny" Mattingly.

On December 3, 1971, Vicki married her high school sweetheart, David Cox. Over the years she proudly owned and operated several businesses in English, Indiana, including, Close Encounters Exotic Zoo, Scooby Doo Daycare, Midwest Caviar and Midwest Antiques and Collectibles.

Vicki is survived by her husband, David; her sister, Denise Burns; her children, David Cox Jr. and Jessica (Joe) Schigur; and her grandchildren, Lyndsie Cox, Wyatt (Daniella) Cox, Autumn Schigur, JoJo Schigur and Aiden Schigur. She is also survived by her great-grandson, Theodore Cox; her nieces, Bethany Carver and Mauri Cox; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and her lifelong best friends Robin and Kenny Marshall.

Vicki cherished every moment spent with her family and friends. She was known for her quick wit, sharp sense of humor and signature sarcastic remarks. She loved cooking and baking for everyone, tending to her plants and chickens and caring for every stray cat that crossed her path. She was a regular attendee of English, Wesleyan Church, where she also helped support the food pantry.

A devoted mother, a loving mamaw, and a steady presence in her community, Vicki never hesitated to lend a helping hand-whether offering a meal, financial support, or a place to stay. She was the glue that held her family together, and her absence leaves a void that can never be filled.

Cremation has been entrusted to Denbo Funeral Home in English Indiana. The family will host a celebration of life at a later date.

Yesterday

I will miss talking sarcastically about our husbands. You were tough as nails as you had to be as a commercial fisherman's wife. I have lost sleep over your passing. You were the strength behind your family. We will all miss you. The last picture I saw was the beautiful plant that was thriving. May your family keep it just as beautiful. You were a strong beautiful person. I will never forget the day we got to see the infamous tattoo and the look and comment you gave David. I know you are dancing with the angels and watching over your loved ones. May peace be with your family.
