Bagnell & Son Funeral HomeVicki Jean Erwin, age 77, of New Orleans, LA, passed away ever so peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2026 at her home in Covington, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents William Graham and Margaret Mary Bell Erwin. Vicki is survived by her sister, Kay Erwin, many beloved cousins, friends, former students and Girl Scouts. She was a dedicated school teacher in St. Bernard Parish for 35 years. As an educator, her students were her first priority both in and outside of the classroom.
From a young age she lived a life of service helping victims of natural disasters, directing New Orleans Department of Recreation (NORD) day camps, leading Girl Scout troops and participating in various educational projects, events and organizations. She embraced her strong Catholic faith and was quick to support any related needs by serving as a Lector, on bereavement committees and contributing both time and resources to holiday projects.
When not working or volunteering, Vicki seized any opportunity to explore the wonderful world in which she lived. She traveled extensively on five continents with family and friends, was quick to organize or join beach weekends or camping trips and rarely missed an opportunity to attend local events.
Vicki was especially grateful for her family, friends, health care providers and those providing spiritual care through prayer and sacraments during the last seven months of her life as she courageously faced the effects of cancer and treatments. Dr. John Oubre, Dr. Patricia Braly, Dr. Florence Wright, Dr. Craig Seichsnaydre and their staffs treated her with unsurpassed expertise, professionalism and compassion. Passages Hospice was invaluable in providing care and comfort during her last weeks at home.
All are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at Saint Joseph Abbey in St. Benedict, LA on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 2:00PM. Visitation will begin in the Abbey church at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to The Children’s Advocacy Center - Hope House in Covington, LA or your preferred charity dedicated to ending the cycle of child abuse.
