Born in Monroe, LA, Vicki grew up in the Linville community, attended Liberty Baptist Church and was valedictorian of the Linville High School Class of 1970. She continued her education at Northeast Louisiana University earning both a BA and MA in Education. As a retired elementary school teacher, she began her career at Linville High School, taught briefly at Jack Hayes Elementary and the nearby Little Red School House. For 15 years she taught third grade and was a Booster Club and Quarterback Club member at River Oaks School while her children attended there. Vicki finished out her teaching career at Morehouse Magnet School.

She was an active member of North Monroe Baptist Church. Through the years, she volunteered in many roles including Sunday School teacher, children’s choir helper, Bible Drill leader and various roles during annual Vacation Bible School. In recent years, Vicki attended Life Group and sang in the choir whenever her health permitted.

It was her unwavering faith in Christ that sustained her through many challenges in life including her stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis in January 2004. Living with a terminal illness for more than 20 years, she battled her disease with courage, strength, tenacity and grace that was an inspiration to all those who knew her.

Vicki chose to cherish every moment cheering for her grandsons, traveling with family or friends and serving others. She preferred to make precious memories with those she loved at every opportunity and always encouraged others to do the same.

Through the years, she also supported numerous local organizations including Relay for Life, Race for the Cure, American Heart Association, Susan G. Komen Foundation and was a proud member and former president of the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters Tip-Off Board.

Her children would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Scott Barron, his nurses and the staff at St. Francis Oncology & Hematology Clinic for their attentive care and treatment throughout her courageous fight. Thanks also to all the members of her Life Group, the Adult Choir and church staff at North Monroe Baptist Church for their love and care over the years.

Memorials may be made to Liberty Cemetery Inc. or the North Monroe Baptist Church Building Fund.
