Vickie Cloninger Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 30, 2025.
A family led service was held in Clinton.

Vickie Jean (Smalling) Smith Cloninger passed from this life on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, at her home in Clinton, Oklahoma. She was 69 years old.

Vickie was born on April 8, 1956, in Woodward, Oklahoma, to Carroll Smalling and Haleta Mae (Boatman) Smalling. She grew up in Hydro, Oklahoma, where she attended Hydro Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1974.

On November 12, 1976, Vickie married Michael Eugene Smith at the Hydro Church of Christ. To this union, three children were born: Mandi Ranae, Kayli Dawn, and Jeffry Michael. Vickie continued her education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, graduating in May of 1979.

Throughout her life, Vickie lived in several Oklahoma communities, including Leedey, Weatherford, Hydro, Camargo, Marlow, and ultimately Clinton, which she called home in her later years. She devoted her career to serving others as a Special Education Teacher, working with both children and adults who had physical and/or mental disabilities. Her compassion, patience, and dedication left a lasting impact on countless lives.

On June 12, 2021, Vickie married Joe Cloninger, and together they shared a deep love for family, faith, and service.

Vickie was baptized into the Church of Christ at the age of 12 and remained a faithful, lifelong member. She attended the Clinton, Hydro, and Duncan Churches of Christ throughout her life, actively participating in Bible school, teaching children's classes, serving through the Agape Medical Clinic, and providing food to those in need. Her faith guided every aspect of her life.

She was known as the family historian, cherishing memories and preserving the stories of those she loved. Vickie also enjoyed volunteering with various organizations and proudly served as treasurer for the Clinton American Legion. Above all, she treasured her family, especially her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carroll and Haleta Smalling; her first husband, Michael Smith; and her son, Jeffry Smith.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Joe Cloninger of the home; daughter, Mandi Milligan and husband Tyler of Marlow, Oklahoma; daughter, Kayli Affolder and husband Brian of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; sister, Mickie Hart and husband Mike of Weatherford, Oklahoma; sister, Debbie Sabedra and husband Mike of Duncan, Oklahoma; brother, Don Smalling of Norman, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Caden Milligan, Chelsie Milligan, Clayton Smith, and Tex Smith; along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and a host of other loved ones and dear friends.

Vickie will be remembered for her servant's heart, unwavering faith, and deep love for her family and community.
