Vickie DeJong Obituary

Vickie Lee DeJong

1947 - 2025

Salt Lake City, Utah - From day one (May 5th, 1947) Vickie let her light shine bright. At the tender age of 18 months she was diagnosed with polio. Although many would see this as a tragedy, Vickie described her illness as one of the many "blessings" she received throughout her life. Her unwavering love and faith for the Savior gave her strength to face her health issues with grace. She found ways to overcome her physical challenges and lived independently. She devoted her time for 31 years working for the Beehive clothing distribution center. She was a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her greatest joy came from teaching the primary children about Christ's love for each of them. Although she never had children of her own, Vickie poured her love into all those around her, most of all her 19 nieces and 19 nephews. With every new family member born, Vickie was the arms and voice that soothed when nothing else would work. She was a big sister with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization.

Vickie loved her time in the temple; she made glowing beaded temples to give as gifts, reflecting on how she felt about the temple being one of the greatest gifts given to her.

Vickie left this mortal world on the morning of September 26, 2025 with her sister, Kathie, close by. She knew that on the other side of the veil, our Lord would be there to hold her hand. We are feeling the loss and yet we can rejoice because Vickie can "walk and not faint, run and not be weary." She is in the arms of her beloved poodle, Colby, her grandparents, parents, niece and nephew, and many friends that she loved so dearly.

Vickie is the oldest of eight, leaving behind 7 siblings: Diane, Kathie (who cared for her selflessly), Neil (Linda), Mike (Kathy), Joanne (Kenny), Russ (Brenda), and Less (Lookie); her cousins Brian, Scott, and Suzzie, whom she held so close to her heart; and her dearest friend, Nancy, who's kindness meant so much to her. A special thank you goes to Dr. Ann Clark, and Emily with Quality Hospice.

Vickie is missed and so loved. We hope that there can be a peace in knowing that this separation is short and we will soon be together forever.

I worked with Vickie at Beehive Clothing for several years back in the 1990's. Such a sweet lady. I still have on my desk at work a drink coaster she made from yarn and plastic canvas.
