Vickie Marchinek Obituary
Vickie Sue (nee Bagley) Marchinek, 68, passed away in Spokane Valley, Wa. on Thursday, March 10th, 2022.
The funeral will be held on Friday, March 18th at 11:00 a.m. at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, WA followed by burial at the Mountain View Park Cemetery.
Vickie was born July 8th, 1953 to Delbert and Carol (nee McDonald) Bagley in Colville, WA. She was the eldest of their three children, which included her sister Cheryl and brother Michael.
Vickie spent her childhood in Colville growing up with a large extended family. She graduated from Colville High School in 1971. Shortly after, she met John Marchinek at a town dance and after a brief courtship married on December 2nd, 1972. They had three sons; Shawn, Jason and Ryan.
Along with raising her boys, Vickie worked as a waitress for many years as they lived in Kettle Falls, then spent a couple years spent living in Springfield, Oregon, back to Kettle and later in Tacoma, WA and Post Falls, ID before they finally settled down back in Kettle Falls, near her parents Delbert and Carol and extended family. Many a summer, Vickie found herself successfully juggling a home, kids, a job and family with love, energy and enduring tenacity; while John was away with the Forest Service fighting fires. As her boys grew, Vickie found her true passion of driving School Bus both for the Post Falls and Kettle Falls School Districts. In Kettle Falls, her school bus career culminated in her becoming a driver trainer and union representative, but mostly it found her in the center of an amazing community of friends and co-workers that she enjoyed spending time with both at work and after hours.
In addition, to working and raising her family, she had a deep love for animals and added various dogs and many cats to her busy home over the years. She was even known to put out apples and potato peelings for many generations of deer around their property. Vickie loved to read and shared many a Western Romance series with her mother Carol and was often found sitting in her living room chair after a long day taking in a chapter or two of her latest novel. She enjoyed playing cards and listening to country music, especially her favorite band of Alabama of which John had taken her to see in concert to her great delight.
Vickie and John enjoyed nearly 40 years of marriage raising their family, caring for their property outside of Kettle Falls, and spending holidays and weekends with family until John passed away suddenly in 2012. Shortly after John's passing, Vickie was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's and due to its aggressive nature, she spent her last years in a memory care facility in Spokane Valley where she succumbed to the terrible disease.
She is survived by her three sons and spouses, Shawn and Teresa Marchinek, Jason and Carrie Marchinek, Ryan and Becki Marchinek; seven Grandchildren, Tristian, Andrew, Hayden, Sophia, Emmalyn, Nathanyl, Mathew, Dylan and Caleb; her sister, brother and their spouses, Cheryl and Steve Wardian; Mike and Connie Bagley; and several cousins, nephews and nieces and their families and many friends.
