Vickie Janette Petersen, 70, passed away on January 15, 2025.
Born on June 9, 1954, in Nampa, Idaho, to Frank and Alfreda Thomas Gardner, Vickie grew up with a love for learning and service. She graduated as valedictorian from Vale Union High School in Dale, Oregon, and later earned her associate degree from Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho.
In 1996, Vickie began her teaching career at Mineola ISD in Wood County, Texas. Over nearly 30 years, she served in many roles, most notably as the middle school librarian and, more recently, as the DAEP instructor. Her dedication to education and her deep care for her students left a lasting impact on countless lives.
Vickie found great joy in her family. She was blessed with a loving husband, eight remarkable children, four devoted sons-in-law, two wonderful daughters-in-law, and 23 cherished grandchildren who brought her endless pride and happiness.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Vickie served in numerous capacities, including bishop’s wife, seminary teacher for over 20 years, Relief Society president, Young Women’s president, ward chorister, pianist, Primary president, stake Primary counselor, and family history consultant. Her commitment to her faith and community was inspiring, and her legacy of service will continue to bless those who knew her. She loved all her scriptures, but her favorite quote was “Rings and jewels are not gifts but are apologies for gifts…The only true gift is a portion of thyself.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Vickie will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, her love of learning, and her dedication to her family, students, and faith.
