Victor "Vic" P. Barnett,
age 67, of Park Falls, passed away on January 16, 2025, at his home. He was born November 27, 1957, the son of Victor and Commella (Eads) Barnett. His early life and schooling were in Chicago, IL. His family life was filled with love, laughter, and stern discipline. He attended Southern Illinois University and Purdue University NW where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Associate of Applied Science degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering. He worked as product sales manager for Souriau-Sunbank for almost 17 years. Vic had a love of the outdoors from a young age that was passed onto him by his father. He regularly traveled to northern Wisconsin on hunting and fishing trips with his friends. On one of those trips in 2017 he met the love of his life, Mary Helberg. They moved in together and shared 7 happy years, raising chickens, ducks, and watching wildlife.
He was an avid baseball fan since his youth. He played all through grade school, college, and was a catcher in an adult baseball league. Vic was an outgoing, energetic, charismatic man who made friends everywhere he went. He enjoyed socializing during pool league, visiting with friends and family, and exploring the outdoors. Most of all, he enjoyed spending quiet days at home watching nature with Mary.
He is survived by his fiancé Mary Helberg of Park Falls, sister Sandra (Russ) Mueller of Chicago, and by many cousins and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday February 1, 2025 at Birch Street Funeral Service Chapel in Park Falls. Deacon Robert Schienebeck will officiate.
A visitation will be held from 10:00am until the hour of the service at the funeral home.

As we mourn this loss going forward, I´d like to share with those who knew him best more recently these memories and pictures from the past. Here is "Little Vic," as we called him, leading (bet that´s not surprising!) the obligatory dousing with ice-cold water from Grandpa´s old well at the last Eads reunion at the old family home in Kincaid, West Virginia. He´s young here but, from what I´m reading here, he didn´t change much. We´ll always remember how fun he was!
I hope I had some hand in helping Vic love the country life! For me it was an honor and obligation to instigate and participate in all efforts with my "city cousins" to get in trouble with our parents for laying in wait in the creek to catch "minners" in jars, putting Grandma´s dog in the small caves under the railroad track and generally wreaking havoc on the mountainside behind Grandma´s house when they visited in summer each year. We had so much fun! Sandy and I remember it with loving nostalgia.

I am Vic's cousin also (brother of Rodney Eads). I wasn't blessed with a lot of time with Vic due to distance and the swift tide of life. It is a true legacy to have those who passed by him, at whatever level, to remember him with a genuine smile and hear a voice saying to him "Welcome to your True Home"!

ADIOS, Cousin Vic! from your first cousin in Texas. I will always remember the great times we had with family reunions in WV and whitewater rafting down the New River. Most of all, I remember your great personality. Anytime I think of you...I smile. RIP Rodney

Victor, I´m still trying to process this. I can´t believe I won´t be getting any more of those random texts every few years, for no reason other than to check-in and say hi. In so many ways you were larger than life. Even though I nagged you about needing to grow up, a part of me was glad and maybe a little envious you didn´t. You lived your life the way you wanted to, and I learned to respect that even though at times it made me pretty mad. I never knew someone that had so many friends (except for Bob) and got along with everyone, not to mention it was IMPOSSIBLE to stay mad at you for very long with those puppy dog eyes. It made me happy to know you had finally found your happy place and person. Mary...thank you for that and I´m so sorry he left you so soon.
Love you, Victor.... Laurie

Vic is a guy I met in Boone, NC when at App. State - we were both in our early 20´s. He was full of life and everyone loved Vic. He was close to his cousin, Jeanette Eads while in Boone and we have a lot of great stories because Jeanette and I have always been close friends. Vic and I have kept in touch with each other over the years and spoke last about 6 months ago. He was loving life in the backwoods. One thing that we spoke about on several occasions was having a relationship with The Lord. I know Vic was a believer and loved our Heavenly Father so I truly believe he is at rest and cackling in heaven. Love you Vic and see you again one day

I took this picture of Vic fishing on one of the trips up north. Always wearing tie-dye and enjoying himself. R.I.P. Vic, you´re one of the good guys.

Dear Sandy & Russ,
It is with a very heavy heart I write this. I am so heartbroken and saddened for all of us who knew and loved Vic. My entire family (many cousins, aunts and uncles) are all sad to hear the news. Our memories are full of all the great times we shared many years ago. Vic was such a fun-loving great guy! I´ll always cherish my memories of Vic and what a Free Spirit he was. May that spirit live on in all of us who knew and loved Vic. Much Love,
Sandy (Waliszewski) Hoffmann

I've know Victor since high school and he could always make me laugh and could light up a room with joy! He was one of the main reasons I ended up going to college at Southern Illinois University. He made me an offer to live with him in his trailer that I couldn't refuse and was able to afford. We lived together for 2 years and became very close friends. I enjoyed every minute I ever spent with Victor. Although it's been many years since we were close I can still vision his smile and his positive attitude to this day. I will miss him dearly. Sincerely, Don Pickett

Freeeeak! I'm strugglin to believe this! We've known each other since grade school and always kept in touch. I was so happy to move to WI 3 years ago and be close to you. Mary is a treasure. You two were so cool! Was looking forward to your retirement and hanging out more. I poured a big sipper last night when I found out then replayed many stories in my mind. Laughing and crying.... I will miss you Freak.
Mary, please call when you can. 3038086639

My heart is broken after hearing of Vic´s passing. He was the sweetest, funniest guy, always had a smile when we ran into him at Oak Lawn field, or wherever the Yaquis were playing. He was a teammate of my late husband, Frank Murphy and we were good friends.
Vic will always be remembered. My condolences to his fiancé and family.

This is devastating. I knew Victor and Sandy going back to grammar school days. He was a friendly and happy guy who always had a smile for you. Sandy, I hope you´re healthy and happy and my heart goes out to you and your family. My deepest condolences.

Wow, in total shock, rest in peace my friend. Brought him deer hunting, always a class act and great person. Again... totally shocked.

OMG, Mary, I am in total shock! I am Victors friend from Chicago for many years, my kids called him Uncle Turj. I was supposed to meet him Monday the 20th at Cafe Salsa and never heard from him. We planned this on January 9th. Out of curiosity I just put his name and Park Falls and his obituary came up. I know how much he loved you and how happy his life was! On his Facebook there is nothing. All of his friends from Chicago I´m sure don´t know anything. My number is 773-401-7459, if you would please call me, Mary.

I had the great pleasure of working with Vic during his career at Souriau. I was fortunate to be on the same team as him during my last few years before retiring. Vic was a good man, funny, witty, and quick with comments. Prayers to all of his close friends and family. He will certainly be missed.
